Jeremy Irons: 40 interesting facts about the actor! (List)

1. Jeremy Irons was born September 19, 1948, in Isle of Wight, England.

2. His mother, Barbara Anne Brereton Brymer worked as a housewife and his father, Paul Dugan Irons, had a career as an accountant.

3. He attended Sherborne School in Dorset from 1962 to 1966.

4. He became known for his sinister vocal performance as Scar in The Lion King, and played the villainous Simon in Die Hard With A Vengeance.

5. In 1972, he landed his big break in a London production of Godspell.

6. After playing Claus in Reversal of Fortune, he received an Academy Award for Best Actor.

7. Attended Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in England.

8. He briefly performed in a four man school band called Four Pillars of Wisdom.

9. Received Emmy for Outstanding Voiceover Performance for “The Great War and the Shaping of the 20th Century-War Without End” (1996/97).

36. Irons owns Kilcoe Castle (which he had painted a rusty pink) in County Cork, Ireland, and has become involved in local politics there. He also has another Irish residence in the Liberties, Dublin.

37. He has played his own twin. Though knowing he had an upbringing in theater helped, he was called on in one movie to play twins. The film was called Dead Ringers and came out in 1988. 39. Irons’ wife and children are Catholic; Irons has also been described as a practising Catholic. But of himself, he has stated, “I don’t go to church much because I don’t like belonging to a club, and I don’t go to confession or anything like that, I don’t believe in it. But I try to be aware of where I fail and I occasionally go to services. I would hate to be a person who didn’t have a spiritual side because there’s nothing to nourish you in life apart from retail therapy.”
