1. Morgan confided to Just Jared that his first audition ever was for the role of Tom Marvolo Riddle, who winds up becoming the future Lord Voldemort in “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.”Unfortunately, despite reading J.K. Rowling’s original novel and watching “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” the role went to Christian Coulson.
2. Charles M. Davis used to put his good looks to work: Davis (Marcel) was a model before breaking out into acting.
3. Claire Holt and Phoebe Tonkin used to swim in the same circles: Holt (Rebekah) and Tonkin (Hayley) both grew up in Sydney, Australia, and are besties in real life. They were even in a show together prior to The Originals, called H2O: Just Add Water.
4. Joseph Morgan supports Positive Women: Even though Klaus is a borderline despicable creature on the show, the actor who portrays him (Morgan) is actually a pretty solid dude. Morgan is a huge supporter of Positive Women, which is an organization that works to improve the lives of women and children across Africa by eliminating poverty and sparking social change.
5. Daniel Gillies is married to a teen queen: Gillies (Elijah) is married to former teen queen Rachael Leigh Cook, and they just had a baby girl named Charlotte. If you forgot the best part of 1999, she was the star of She’s All That.
6. New Orleans wasn’t the first choice for The Originals setting. “Originally it was going to be set in Chicago, and it was going to be a whole different thing,” Morgan revealed. “Then it sort of evolved, as we talked about it.”
7. Morgan wouldn’t have been cast as Klaus 10 years ago. I don’t think I could’ve played this part 10 years ago,” he said, “because I just didn’t have enough life experience. And you have to have been through things, I think, to draw upon that kind of darkness, and the way he goes so cold, and kind of removes himself sometimes, and has all of that anger. I think I had trouble in the beginning of my career playing scenes that required that kind of fury, because I just didn’t have it in me.”
8. Morgan is off the market: JoMo (that’s Morgan’s nickname) also has a hottie girlfriend, Persia White. For you The Vampire Diaries fans, she plays Bonnie’s mother, and she’s quite stunning.
9. The reason that The Originals is happening, is in large part due to the fans. “I think partly it’s down to the fans,” Morgan admitted. “Because there were fan made trailers for The Originals before it was ever a reality for us. I watched and RT’d — I encouraged it. I was interested from the beginning.”
10. Steven Krueger is a former Liar: Krueger (Josh) plays the lovable gay bestie of Davina. Teen TV show lovers will recognize him as Ben from Pretty Little Liars. He played Emily’s ex-boyfriend, and wasn’t so lovable. Let’s just say we prefer him as the adorable Josh on The Originals.
11. Morgan was actually born Joseph Martin, and his dad, Nick Martin, is an incredible painter. It must run in the family, because Joseph also likes to paint and draw.
12. Phoebe Tonkin runs a website with longtime pal, Teresa Palmer (Tez), called YourZenLife. It’s actually completely amazing and full of positive messages about health, happiness, relationships and eco-living.
13. Leah Pipes has a history with vampires: Pipes (Camille) was briefly on one of the best shows that ever graced our television screens. In 2001, she got her start in acting by portraying Stephanie in Angel for a two-episode arc.
