CeeLo Green, is an American singer, rapper, songwriter, record producer, actor, and businessman.

1. Thomas DeCarlo Callaway was born May 30, 1974 in Atlanta, Georgia.

2. He graduated from high school at Riverside Military Academy, a boarding school for boys in Gainesville, Georgia.

3. Both of his parents were ordained ministers,[5] and he started his music career in church.

4. His father died when Green was two years old. His mother, Sheila J. Tyler-Callaway, a firefighter, was paralyzed in a car crash and died two years after the accident when Green was 18.

5. At the time of his mother’s death, Green’s career with Goodie Mob had just begun taking off.

6. He sank into a deep depression, which he later wrote about in various songs throughout his career, including “Free” by Goodie Mob, “Just a Thought” on St. Elsewhere, and “She Knows” and “A Little Better” on The Odd Couple.

7. Green also wrote about his mother in the song “Guess Who” from Goodie Mob’s album Soul Food.

8. In an excerpt of CeeLo Distilled, a documentary produced by Absolut and The Fader, Green explained that his mother’s death was a defining moment that led him toward “crossing that threshold over into a career”.

9. Along with Big Gipp, T-Mo, and Khujo, Green was an original member of the Atlanta hip hop group Goodie Mob. He is the youngest of the four.

10. The Goodie Mob was a part of the Atlanta rap collective the Dungeon Family, which also included Outkast.

11. Goodie Mob appeared on two tracks on OutKast’s 1994 debut album Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, with Green providing vocals for “Call of da Wild” and “Git Up, Git Out”.

12. Goodie Mob released their debut album, Soul Food, in 1995.

13. During this time, he also contributed backing vocals to TLC’s hit 1995 song “Waterfalls”.

14. The group’s second album, Still Standing, came out in 1998 and also received much critical praise.

15. Its commercial performance was slightly lower than the group’s previous effort, however. Green took more creative control on the group’s next album, World Party, which was released in 1999.

16. Green later came to prominence as part of the soul duo Gnarls Barkley, with record producer Danger Mouse. Subsequently he embarked on a solo career, partially spurred by YouTube popularity.

17. Internationally, Green is best known for his soul work: his most popular was Gnarls Barkley’s 2006 worldwide hit “Crazy”, which reached number 1 in various singles charts worldwide, including the UK.

18. In the United States, “Crazy” reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100. Its parent album St. Elsewhere (2006), was also a hit, peaked at number 1 on the UK Albums Chart and number 4 on the US Billboard 200 albums chart.

19. Gnarls Barkley’s second album, The Odd Couple (2008), charted at number 12 on the Billboard 200.

20. In 2010, Green took a hiatus from working with Danger Mouse, and released a solo single titled “Fuck You!”, on August 19.

21. The song became a successful single, with the radio-edit version “Forget You”, reaching the top spot in the UK and the Netherlands and peaked at number 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Its parent album, The Lady Killer (2010), saw similar success, peaking within the top five of the UK Albums Chart and debuting within the top 10 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, receiving a Gold certification from the BPI in the UK.

22. His next two singles, “It’s OK” and “Bright Lights Bigger City” were also hits in Europe. From 2011 to 2014, Green was a judge and coach on American reality television singing competition The Voice, appearing on four of its seasons.

23. In 2013, Green reunited with the rest of Goodie Mob, to release their fifth studio album Age Against the Machine. In 2011 he did a concert with Prince in Madison Square Garden.

24. He worked as a voice actor in the animated feature Hotel Transylvania (2012), and also appeared in a few television programs and films—including his own show, CeeLo Green’s The Good Life, on TBS.

25. Green has endorsed 7 Up, Duracell, M&M’s, and sake brand TY KU. His work has earned numerous awards and accolades, including five Grammy Awards, a BET Award, a Billboard Award, and a Brit Award.

26. CeeLo Green has described himself as having been a “goon” in his youth, as well as a “kleptomaniac, pyromaniac, just plain maniac”.

Green was married to Christina Johnson, and divorced in 2005.

27. He and Johnson have a son, Kingston, who was born on September 30, 2000, and Green was stepfather to her daughters, Sierra and Kalah.

29. As cool as Cee Lo is he has endured a bit of controversy stemming from some sets he’s performed in the past. He showed up late to Coachella in 2011 and was booed by the fans before having his set cut and leaving the stage.

30. Cee Lo drew the ire of the gay community in 2011 when one of his performances caught a negative review, and he responded by making a remark about the critic being gay. As expected he caught a bit of backlash over his comment and subsequently deleted any tweets about the incident.

31. Celebrities often sing for other celebrities, but did you know Cee Lo sang at a Presidential fundraiser for Obama? Yup, the singer belted out “Fuck You” before switching to “Forget You” when he decided that the profane lyrics might not be the best thing to sing at a fundraiser.

32. He is a grandfather. Although he is only 39 years old, his now very much older stepdaughter made him a grandfather in 2010 when she gave birth to his grandson.

33. He has a pink cockatoo. His pink cockatoo has caused much controversy. While on the second season of “The Voice,” which he used to be a judge on, everyone said goodbye to his cat named’ Purrfect’ but said hello to his pink cockatoo named, ‘Lady.’ Many animal rights activists were not happy that he had his pet bird on the show with him as they said it caused the bird too much stress to be around so many people.

34. He has also acted. Not only has he acted but acted alongside Ben Stiller and William H. Macy. He starred alongside these two in the 1999 superhero comedy called, “Mystery Men.” He and his Goodie Mob band members made a cameo appearance as the ‘Not so Goodie Mob.’ However, you may not remember seeing Green in the movie because he was in full costume for it.
