Star Trek Beyond Trivia: 16 fun facts about the movie!

Star Trek Beyond is about to be released. Let’s see some awesome facts and trivia that we already know about the movie!

1.Simon Pegg revealed on The Graham Norton Show (2007) that he was involved in the writing process for this movie, and on May 19, 2015, on his website, he referred to the title as “Star Trek Beyond”.

2. We know that the plot is going to focus on the five-year mission. Star Trek fans know this as the intrepid space mission Spock, Captain Kirk, and friends head out on in order to explore the final frontier that is space. Captain Kirk described the goal of the mission in the original series through a now famous quote “to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.” Quinto, who plays Spock in the new films, revealed that this would be the plot of Star Trek Beyond to Variety last summer.

3. J.J. Abrams declined to return to direct the third film because of his directorial obligations on Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015).

4. J.J Abrams will stay on as a producer for the third film while screenwriter Roberto Orci – one of the writers for the first two installments of the newly rebooted franchise – was chosen to direct the third installment. In December 2014, however, Roberto Orci was dropped as director.

5. According to Zachary Quinto, while he greatly enjoys the character Spock, he has made mention that he is ready to move on from the role and venture into other projects. He has stated though that he fully plans to finish out his contractual obligations in playing the role of Spock and seeing where his character’s journey goes in the trilogy. Quinto (just like the rest of his main co-stars) signed on for a three picture deal in which makes this film his last contractual commitment towards the role of Spock.

6. A renegotiation of contracts has meant a larger pay deal for the returning actors, while also writing in the option of Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto returning for a fourth film.

7. In an interview, screenwriter Roberto Orci stated that Star Trek 3 would be more original and wanted the film to stay in the classic Trek world.

8. With the death of Leonard Nimoy, the script will have to be reworked without Spock Prime. This was never confirmed that Nimoy was intended to have a role in the film.

9. The script by original director Roberto Orci was said to bring William Shatner back into the Star Trek universe to reprise his role as Captain James T. Kirk. The script was said to reunite him and Leonard Nimoy on screen but William Shatner had to accept the role in the movie. The script may be rewritten and the return of his character may be excluded before actual filming takes place.

10. Anton Yelchin’s final Star Trek film after his death in June 2016. However, this will not be his final film role. His other films We Don’t Belong Here (2016), Porto (2016), Thoroughbred (2017) and Rememory will be released posthumously as well.

11. With the release of this film, all three “main villains” in the rebooted Star Trek series will have been played by an actor who has also portrayed a Marvel superhero on film. Eric Bana from the Star Trek (2009) remake had previously portrayed Dr. Bruce Banner in Hulk (2003). Benedict Cumberbatch will be portraying Dr. Stephen Strange in Doctor Strange (2016). Idris Elba had previously portrayed Heimdall in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, in multiple films.

12. In an interview, Karl Urban stated that he almost did not return to the role of Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy. What convinced him to stay was a discussion with director Justin Lin.

13. Idris Elba is the third actor from the Thor film series to remain in the rebooted Star Trek series. Chris Hemsworth played George Kirk in the Star Trek (2009) remake and Joseph Gatt plays the Humanoid Starfleet Science Officer 0718 on the bridge. In the Thor films, Chris Hemsworth plays Thor, Idris Elba plays Heimdall and Joseph Gatt plays Garundroth the Frost Giant.

14. The song “Sabotage” by the hip hop group Beastie Boys was also heard in the Star Trek (2009) remake, played on a car stereo by young James T. Kirk.

15. One thing fans of the original Star Trek shows haven’t liked about J.J. Abrams’s reinvention is the darker tone of his movies. The originals had an optimistic outlook and Trekkies did not like Abrams’s creative retooling of their beloved world, voting Into Darkness the worst Star Trek film in the canon at a convention in Las Vegas in 2013.

16. While fans hated it, Into Darkness was the most financially successful Star Trek movie, grossing over $467 million worldwide according to Box Office Mojo. We know Pegg is trying to balance the delicate task of listening to fans as well as the studio, and he’s said in a recent interview with Comic Book Resources that he wants to embrace the spirit of the original TV show in the third film.
