- By October 2018, Universal Television had paid NYC Health + Hospitals, the corporation that oversees New York City’s public hospitals, US$665,000 to film in the hospitals. Robert de Luna, a spokesman for Health + Hospitals, said certain areas that are “unoccupied and unstaffed… presents a great opportunity for a production company and a welcome source of revenue for our health system.”

- In the early 1600s, the Dutch settled on Manhattan Island’s Southern tip and named the area New Amsterdam. On 8 September 1664, New Amsterdam was renamed New York after the Duke of York.
- Freema Agyeman (Dr Helen Sharpe) and Anupam Kher (Dr Vijay Kapoor) both were in the show Sense8 (2015).
- HCC is short for Health Care Commission. As stated in the show, New Amsterdam is a public hospital. Since New Amsterdam is a thinly-veiled reference to Bellevue Hospital, the organization which oversees the hospital is actually the Health and Hospital Corporation (HHC), an arm of the City of New York.
