- Finch’s small robot is named Dewey in a nod to the robots Huey, Louie and Dewey in the 1972 film Silent Running. In Silent Running a man is left alone with only the company of his robots and teaches Dewey how to look after the plants in the garden on a spaceship.

- One reason Jeff might have chosen that name is that his database contains knowledge of the comic characters Mutt and Jeff. Goodyear the dog is the mutt, and the robot is the Jeff.
- To support his weight, Jeff had to put a metal case under his camping chair to safely sit on it
- The company “tae technologies”, whose name and logo are shown throughout the film, is an actual company working to create fusion power. They are, however, based in California rather than St. Louis.
- Jeff, the robot, is learning throughout the whole film. At the beginning of the movie, Jeff is talking like a simulated robot, but as the movie progresses he talks better and better because he can hear how Finch pronounces the words. Same with his actions and movements, as the movie goes on, his moves become more human than robot, this way the audience can clearly see that he is learning.
- Jeffrey is Tom Hanks’ middle name.
- Timeline and age of Finch… The San Francisco postcard is copyright 1984, and coincides with the release date of the stamp on it and the cost of sending a postcard at that time period. Finch says he was 15 when he received the postcard, indicating that he was born in 1969 or 1970. The apocalypse survival book was dated 2028 and there was mention of the solar flare being 15 years ago. This would put the timeline of the movie at sometime in 2043 or later. This would make Finch over 70 in the movie
- One of Finch’s books is titled “Apocalypse Survival” and is dated 2028
- This is the second Tom Hanks movie to go directly to Apple TV. The first was “Greyhound” (2020)
- Finch wears Nike sneakers like Forrest Gump, the character played by Tom Hanks in the Robert Zemeckis picture. Zemeckis produced Finch.
- In this movie, the robot’s name is Jeff. Caleb Landry Jones, the actor that provides the voice for the robot, had a role in the movie The Kindness of Strangers and his character in that movie was also named Jeff.
- In both Greyhound and Finch, both Apple TV movies, Tom Hanks’ character eats peaches. This could be a reference to the Rockford Peaches, the team Hanks managed in A League of their Own.
- Jeff prepares a Viking funeral for the son of a Viking.
