  1. BoJack Horseman is an American adult animated tragicomedy sitcom.
  2. It was created by Raphael Bob-Waksberg.
  3. It stars the voices of Will Arnett, Amy Sedaris, Alison Brie, Paul F. Tompkins, and Aaron Paul.
  4. It is set primarily in Los Angeles.
  5. The series tells the story of an anthropomorphic horse named BoJack Horseman (Arnett), the washed-up star of a 1990s sitcom who plans his return to celebrity relevance with an autobiography to be written by ghostwriter Diane Nguyen (Brie). He also has to contend with his agent Princess Carolyn (Sedaris), roommate Todd Chavez (Paul), and former rival Mr. Peanutbutter (Tompkins), as well as his struggles with depression and addiction.
  6. The show is designed by cartoonist Lisa Hanawalt.
  7. Lisa Hanawalt has been friends with Bob-Waksberg since high school.

  10. On September 20, 2019, Netflix renewed the show for its sixth and final season.

  21. The series received numerous accolades, including four Critics’ Choice Television Awards for Best Animated Series, three Annie Awards and two Writers Guild of America Awards.
  22. It also received three Primetime Emmy Award nominations, including two for Outstanding Animated Program.
  23. Will Arnett named BoJack as the hardest role of his career to get inside, admitting that he sometimes took the darkness of the character home with him.
  24. Amy Sedaris hated doing the tongue-twisters, so the writers responded by giving her the most of any cast member.
  25. In season two, the line “what are you doing here?” or a variation “what am I doing here?” is said at least once per episode.
  26. As part of the promotion for this title, Netflix created an original entry for the fictional “Horsin’ Around” on their site.
  27. If a user selects this, it plays the intro theme for the sitcom (which is shown in other episodes within the show proper) and then takes them back to the main menu.
  28. Patrick Carney of the Black Keys recorded the theme to this show as a test of his new home studio, with his uncle providing saxophone.
  29. The song was never intended to be used for anything, until Carney was approached by the show’s creators, who asked to use the track as their opening theme.
  30. Rare for an animated series, there is a table read before every episode, allowing the actors and actresses to interact with each other.
  31. The background character dressed in red flannel and a flat cap is meant to be series creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg and appears in every episode.
  32. For Christmas, everyone on the crew of the show got apple-print pajama bottoms like the pajamas that BoJack Horseman wears.
  33. The bookshelf in Princess Carolyn’s office contains a book titled: “Me Meow Pretty One Day”. Princess Carolyn’s character is voiced by Amy Sedaris, whose brother, author David Sedaris, wrote a book with a similar title: “Me Talk Pretty One Day”.
  34. The hold music for Princess Carolyn’s phone is “Jellicle Cats” from the musical “Cats”.
  35. The picture behind the desk in BoJack’s office is a reference to David Hockney’s 1972 painting “Portrait of an Artist (Pool with two figures).”
  36. The penultimate episode of each season is arguably the emotionally darkest episode of its season.
  37. There is a disproportionately high percentage of left-handed characters.
  38. Margo Martindale didn’t immediately know that the world of the show was populated by humanoid animals as well as humans. After her first recording, she told Will Arnett how much fun she had in her session, and that Mr. Peanutbutter had oddly dog-like qualities.
  39. Paul F. Tompkins actually wore a pink glittering suit just like the one Mr. Peanutbutter wears on his game show to the show’s season 4 premiere gala after asking his Twitter followers for help finding the fabric.
  40. Raphael Bob-Waksberg has said that the Zoe or Zelda dichotomy was influenced by the show Sister, Sister (1994) which had identical twins Tia and Tamera show different personality traits.
