Athisthenes, pupil of Socrates, was the first to outline the main themes of the philosophical school of Cynicism.
Cynics considered specific values, such as greed, wealth, sex, power and fame, as causes of suffering and supported a virtuous way of living close to nature.
For Cynics virtue was a necessity for happiness.
