What was the previous name of eBay?

In 1995 Pierre Omidyar created a website called ‘AuctionWeb’ with categories of things that he thought people might want to sell.

People could post adverts of things they wanted to sell giving a minimum price and the seller would accept the highest offer.

This network was really successful and Omidyar started charging for this service. He realised that he made more money from it rather than his job.

He renamed his site as “eBay” and has now thousand categories, as well as users!
