In the light of World Sexual Health Day, let’s see some interesting facts about the matter!

 

1. A variety of views concern what constitutes sexual intercourse or other sexual activity, which can also impact views on sexual health.

2. Although the term sexual intercourse, particularly the variant coitus, generally denotes penile–vaginal penetration and the possibility of creating offspring, it also commonly denotes penetrative oral sex and penile–anal sex, particularly the latter.

3. The term sex, often a shorthand for sexual intercourse, can mean any form of sexual activity. Because people can be at risk of contracting sexually transmitted infections during these activities, safe sex practices are advised, although transmission risk is significantly reduced during non-penetrative sex.

4. Sexual health is a state of physical, emotional, mental, and social well-being in relation to sexuality; it is not merely the absence of disease, dysfunction, or infirmity.

5. In 2013, nearly half (46.8%) of all high school students reported ever having sexual intercourse.

6. The only way to make sure that you are physically fit in terms of sexual health is to get tested regularly! Get HIV tested and encourage others to do the same!

7. Among sexually experienced teens, 70% of females and 56% of males report that their first sexual experience was with a steady partner, while 16% of females and 28% of males report first having sex with someone they had just met or who was just a friend.

8. A sexually active teen who does not use contraceptives has a 90% chance of becoming pregnant within a year.

9. You can’t get herpes from a toilet seat.

10. You can get HIV from getting a tattoo or body piercing.

11. Baby oil and Vaseline® are not okay to use with latex condoms.

12. You can’t use a condom more than once.

13. A Pap test is not an STD test.

14. Most women won’t have an orgasm through vaginal sex only.

15. The average penis size is about 5 to 6 inches.

16. You can’t get HIV from a mosquito bite.

17. You can get an STI just through oral sex.
