Most people know that Mt. Everest is the world’s tallest mountain, currently standing at 8.848 meters. You will be surprised to know, however that this is a threat to the mountain itself, and it is expected to lose significant height over the next 100 years due to inevitable corrosion at the top. There are some other interesting facts, about it as well
First of all mount Everest is so tall that visitors usually suffer from sickness due to lack of oxygen. Air tends to get thin up there. The thinness of the air also provides visitors with an interesting plume. The white plume pictured leaves mount Everest at 250mph and it sounds like a boeing 747 taking off.
As of 2013, more than 3.500 people have climbed mount Everest and more than 200 died doing so. Due to great improvements, in climbing equipment, however, the number of deaths per climbers dropped from 37% in 1990 to just 4.4% in 2004!
