Sleep Trivia: 20 fun facts you didn’t know about your favorite pastime!

When we were young we didn’t want to fall asleep, but as we get older, it’s seemingly all we want to do. Nothing better than a blissful nap in a fluffy, soft and cozy bed!  But don’t go asleep just yet! Check out some cool facts first, then feel free to doze off!

1. Beds were once considered extremely valuable items. In later medieval times, they were often placed in areas where guests could admire them or passersby could glimpse them through windows.

2. The pillow we all cherish and adore, was once considered a threat to masculinity.

3. There used to be a sleeping habit during the middle ages where people would clamber into bed at 9:00 PM and sleep until midnight.  It was believed be a unique interlude during which the brain could enhance its fertility during “the witching hour” and enjoy a brief spell of energy before returning to sleep until daybreak.

4. A Japanese device which is currently in progress can visualize your dreams with up to 50% accuracy!

5. Adults who don’t get enough sleep tend to act sluggish, but sleep-deprived children may be hyperactive.

6. Humans spend about a third of their lives asleep.

7. Three in five adults fail to get enough sleep.

8 Most dreams involve normal situations with familiar people; bizarre, fantastic or intense dreams are rare.

9. A change in the body clock keeps most teens from feeling sleepy until 11 p.m. or later.
