  6. And an anagram of her first name
  7. She first gained attention from self-released music on social media platforms
  8. Then, Halsey was signed by Astralwerks in 2014
  9. She then released her debut EP, Room 93, in October 2014
  10. To promote the EP and her upcoming album, Halsey toured with larger acts
  11. Her debut studio album, Badlands, was released in 2015
  12. The album debuted at number two on the Billboard 200
  13. It was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA)
  14. Badlands released three new singles
  15. All of which were certified Platinum
  16. They achieved commercial success
  17. It also produced a rereleased single

  42. Ashley Nicolette Frangipane was born on September 29, 1994, in Edison, New Jersey
  43. Her parents dropped out of college after her mother discovered that she was pregnant with her
  44. Her mother, Nicole, works for security in a hospital
  45. Her father, Chris, manages a car dealership
  46. Chris is primarily of African-American descent with some Irish heritage
  47. While Nicole is of Italian, Hungarian, and Irish descent
  48. Halsey has two younger brothers
  49. They are Sevian and Dante
  50. She played the violin, viola, and cello
  51. Until moving on to the acoustic guitar when she was fourteen years old
  52. Throughout her childhood Halsey’s family moved frequently
  53. Her parents worked many jobs
  54. By the time she reached her teen years Halsey had been enrolled in six different schools
  55. In high school Halsey participated in theatre
  56. She was the yearbook editor
  57. She was also named “Best Artist”
  58. During high school Halsey was bullied for her tattoos and shaved head
  59. She struggled with body image
  60. At seventeen Halsey attempted to commit suicide and survived
  61. This led to a seventeen day hospitalization
  62. Following this, she was diagnosed as bipolar
  63. She began using recreational drugs soon after
  64. Also when she was seventeen, she started seeing a man who was twenty-four and lived on the Halsey Street in Brooklyn
  65. In 2012, Halsey graduated from Warren Hills Regional High School in Washington, New Jersey
  66. After graduating, Halsey enrolled at the Rhode Island School of Design
  67. However, she withdrew due to financial hardships and attended community college instead
  68. Prior to college, she had relationships with other women
  69. But stated that in college she started identifying as bisexual
  70. Halsey eventually dropped out of community college
  71. Also, she was kicked out of her home by her parents
  72. Soon after she started living in a basement in lower Manhattan with a group of “degenerate stoners” who she knew through her then-boyfriend
  73. When she wasn’t living there, she occasionally lived in one of New York’s many homeless shelters
  74. She would occasionally stay with her grandmother
  75. Halsey started writing music when she was seventeen
  76. And during 2012 she began posting videos to social media sites such as YouTube and Kik
  77. And in particular Tumblr
  78. She used the username of se7enteenblack
  79. She became known for a parody of Taylor Swift’s song “I Knew You Were Trouble”
  80. This was inspired by Swift’s relationship with Harry Styles
  81. She then wrote a follow up song
  82. Having written poems for years, Halsey began writing songs as a way to promote them
  83. Music became Halsey’s “confessional approach”
  84. And a form of therapy after the difficult life she had endured
  85. She eventually went to a party and met a producer who asked her to collaborate on a song with him because he liked her voice
  86. The result, a song about her ex-boyfriend titled “Ghost”, was posted by Halsey on SoundCloud several weeks after it was recorded
  87. Within hours, the song gained online popularity
  88. She was subsequently contacted by several record labels
  89. With the song eventually charting and going on radio
  90. She signed with Astralwerks, feeling that they gave her more creative freedom than other labels that contacted her
  91. Following this, she played numerous acoustic shows in different cities under several stage names
  92. She chose Halsey as her permanent stage name
  93. She also stated Halsey was the most popular name she used
  94. During this time Halsey began doing covers of other artists’ music to promote her original music
  95. She is currently dating British singer Yungblud and they began dating in 2019
