Greece is a country in Europe that most people visit in the summer!

  1. Greece is a country located in Southern Europe.
  2. The capital of Greece is Athens.
  3. The second largest city in Greece is Thessaloniki.
  4. Greece shares land borders with Albania to the northwest, the Republic of Macedonia and Bulgaria to the north, and Turkey to the northeast.
  5. Greece has the longest coastline on the Mediterranean Basin and the 11th longest coastline in the world at 13,676 km.
  6. You will fond 9 geographic regions: Macedonia, Central Greece, the Peloponnese, Thessaly, Epirus, the Aegean Islands (including the Dodecanese and Cyclades), Thrace, Crete, and the Ionian Islands.
  7. This country is considered to by the birthplace of democracy.
  8. The Greek name of the country is Hellas.
  9. Even though the country’s name is Hellas, it is often called  Greece, which comes from Latin Graecia (as used by the Romans) and literally means ‘the land of the Greeks’.

  11. The climate of Greece is primarily Mediterranean, featuring mild, wet winters and hot, dry summers.
  12. Greece is also the birthplace of Western philosophy, Western literature, historiography, political science, major scientific and mathematical principles, and Western drama,  as well as the Olympic Games.

The country is also a member of   the Council of Europe, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the World Trade Organization (WTO), the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), and the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF).
