What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

We collect information about visitors who comment on Sites that use our Akismet anti-spam service. The information we collect includes the commenter’s IP address, user agent, referrer, and Site URL (along with other information directly provided by the commenter such as their name, username, email address, and the comment itself).

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

If you want to contact uselessdaily.com or you want to upload a useless fact, we collect the data shown in the form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string in order to contact you and also to help spam detection.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

We are using Ezoic.com’s service for advertising purposes (a Google Certified Publishing Partner), in order to serve anonymized, cookie-based programmatic ads in our website. Our main advertising partner is Google through Google Adsense program which is GDPR compliant and our secondary ad-partner is Amazon with its’ affiliate program.

Who we share your data with

We are sharing anonymized data such as cookies with all third-parties mentioned above in Analytics and Advertising sections. Also we are sharing opted-in email data with Mailchimp, in order to send you our newsletter, from which you can also unsubscribe at any time.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

It is not our purpose to share your data outside the European Union, on the contrary, your data are safeguarded to European data protection standards and European servers (web hosting providers). We are choosing our partners very carefully and we are seeking for European or European Union and GDPR compliant partners that store user data on compliant hosting, even if this is done through cloud storage.

How we protect your data

We are taking measures to protect users’ data. We are using top-class vendors such as Google, Microsoft, WordPress and Mailchimp in order to store data and connect to this platform. Our website is fully encrypted while also we are constantly updating our platform with every security update. Also all our employees are trained about privacy policy and sign a special agreement for data and information protection.

What data breach procedures we have in place

We never had data breaches issues before, but we are ready to deal with it if we verify potential or real threat. We are taking preventive measures and we avoid gathering un-needed user data, but when we verify a breach we will immediately contact users using safeguarded third-party platforms. What third parties we receive data from

If our website receives data about users from third parties, including advertisers and analytics vendors (mentioned above), we will be sure that these vendors are privacy policy regulation compliant.

The only automated decision making and profiling that is done with user data is for advertising purposes and done by third parties such as Google, Amazon and Facebook, all claiming to be GDPR compliant.
