Rémi Gaillard: 16 interesting facts about the prankster! (List)

1. Rémi Gaillard was born on 7 February 1975 in Montpellier, France.

2. He is a French prankster who uploads videos on YouTube.

3. After losing his job at a shoe store, Rémi began to use his free time to run pranks on the public.

4. As of March 2012, he is the seventeenth most subscribed comedian on YouTube.

5. Gaillard gained attention in the French media after performing a series of pranks, including an appearance disguised as a Lorient football player in the 2002 Coupe de France final match, during which he took part in the winners’ celebrations and was greeted by the then president of the French Republic, Jacques Chirac.

6. He plays football and has posted videos showing his skills, including one with Brazilian footballer Ronaldo.

It plays on a classic French proverb C’est en forgeant qu’on devient forgeron. Literally translated the proverb reads, “It’s by working as a blacksmith that one becomes a blacksmith.”

10. The majority of Gaillard’s sketches are of the hidden camera type, often disguising himself in outlandish costumes for his pranks. In some videos, Gaillard is accompanied by a crowd of friends, giving the action a flashmob-like nature.

11. Gaillard shot his first sketch in 1999 with a friend in Montpellier, and in 2001, he launched his website nimportequi.com.

12. He gained fame in 2002 at the finals of the Coupe de France.

His recent pranks often entail dressing up in large animal costumes; including a pig, dog, cat, turtle, snail, bee, shark, kangaroo, spider, beaver, fly, owl, gorilla, chicken, penguin, giraffe, pigeon, rabbit, butterfly, bat, and a sheep. He has also dressed up as a bomb and a speed enforcement camera box.

14. On his official site, Gaillard claims over 2.1 billion views on his videos on the web. His YouTube channel has total video views of nearly one and a half billion and his most popular YouTube video, “Kangaroo”, has almost 68 million views.

15. Gaillard starred in his first full-length feature film titled N’importe qui. It is directed by Raphaël Frydman and was released on March 5, 2014, in France.
