2. In them, we follow the story of female protaganist, Clarissa “Clary” Fray, as she discovers that she is a Shadowhunter – Nephilim born with Angel blood.
3. Matthew Daddario, an actor most recognised for his role in 2013’s “Delivery Man”, is making the transition to the small screen, and upping the stakes with a core cast role as Alec Lightwood. Shadowhunter, BFF to Jace, and love interest for Magnus Bane.
4. Alberto Rosende, an actor known for his role as Carlos in CBS’ “Blue Bloods”, made the transition from crime drama to the world of Young Adult Fantasy to play Clary’s BFF and student, Simon Lewis. Alberto is a relative newcomer, in that other than his role in “Blue Bloods”, and a listing for a short film on IMDb, not much is known about him.
5. In 2013, the first in the series of books, “City of Bones” was adapted into a movie, tentatively named “The Mortal Instrumens: City of Bones”.
6. The stunning Emeraude Toubia, an actress who previously auditioned for and was on Model Latina, would be making the jump from modelling to the small screen, ready to play Isabelle Lightwood for ABC Family’s Shadowhunters.
7. Katherine McNamara, the 19-year-old actress known for her role as Harper in MTV’s “Happyland”, is no stranger to television. With singing, acting and dancing under her belt, the young actress is a triple threat, and joins the Shadowhunter cast as Clarissa “Clary” Fray, opposite Dom Sherwood.
8. Vampire Academy alumni Dominic Sherwood, who last year played fire-wielding Moroi, Christian Ozera, is taking the leap over from film to television to star as main character, and core cast member, Jace Wayland.
9. Daddario is no stranger to playing a gay character, his character in “Delivery Man” was also gay.
10. Harry Shum Jr, the hottie and Glee Alumni known for playing Mike Chang, is probably one of the best castings yet. Not only do we know he’s brilliant, but in taking on the role of Magnus Bane – The High Warlock of Brooklyn and love interest to Alec.
11. Canadian actress Maxim Roy takes over the role of Clary’s Mum, Jocelyn Fray from “Game of Thrones” actress, Lena Headey who previously played her in the movie.
12. Isaiah Mustafa, the guy most commonly known as the “Old Spice” guy, from the commercials, is actually also an actor and formel NFL practice squad wide receiver. He’s had roles in “Horrible Bosses” and “Madea’s Big Happy Family”, and now joins the cast as Werewolf and close friend of Clary’s Mum, Luke Garroway.
13. Alan Van Sprang, the Canadian actor most known for his role as King Henry on the CW’s “Reign”, will jump from the CW over to ABC Family, to play antagonist Valentine.
14. According to ABC Family President Tom Ascheim (via The Hollywood Reporter), “Shadowhunters is a big, epic saga that will resonate with viewers who come to ABC Family for the Harry Potter, Hunger Games and Twilight franchises. A New York Times best-seller for 122-consecutive weeks, with over 35 million copies in print worldwide, Shadowhunters is the perfect story to share with our audience.”
15. The producers of the OG movie will also be behind the ABC Family drama. That’s right, Constantin Film will, in fact, be producing the show. As for the showrunner and executive producer, that will be all Ed Decter (Helix, Unforgettable, The Client List).
16. It’s going to be a 13-episode drama.
17. Stephen R. Hart played Brother Jeremiah in the movie The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones and has now been cast in the same role for the TV series Shadowhunters.
18. Dominic Sherwood (Jace) and Katherine McNamara (Clary) both got permanent tattoos of the angelic rune after wrapping up season 1 production.
19. Matthew Daddario (Alec) originally auditioned for the role of Jace. Upon seeing his audition, author Cassandra Clare told the casting directors he’d make a better Alec, and he got the role.
20. The whole cast of Shadowhunters are reading The Mortal Instruments series so they can better understand their characters.
21. While the show was just announced, the show’s Twitter account asked fans who they would want to play these characters. There was an overwhelming response to the idea of Simon Lewis being played by his actor in the movie – Robert Sheehan.
22. Harry Shum Jr and Matthew Daddario both auditioned for Magnus Bane and Alec Lightwood respectively in the film version of the TV series, City of Bones.
23. Alyssa Veniece who will play a werewolf named Justine in the tv series also played a vampire in the movie adaption, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.
24. Due to the unpopularity of the first film The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (2013), The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes was cancelled and it was later decided to reboot the series in a television format.

30. Sigourney Weaver was cast as the Inquisitor for the canceled film sequel The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes.
