  3. It was inspired by the book Deadly Dance: The Chippendales Murders by K. Scot Macdonald and Patrick MontesDeOca.
  4. It stars Kumail Nanjiani as Somen “Steve” Banerjee, the founder of Chippendales.
  5. Welcome to Chippendales premiered on November 22, 2022 on Hulu.
  6. It is also available on Disney+.
  7. Principal photography began by March 2022.
  8. Production briefly paused due to a positive COVID-19 test.
  9. The score was composed by Siddhartha Khosla.
  10. The album was released on December 30, 2022.
  11. In May 2021, it was announced Hulu had given the series a straight-to-series order, with Robert Siegel, Rajiv Joseph and Mehar Sethi serving as writers.
  12. In October 2021, it was announced Ramin Bahrani would direct and executive produce the series.
  13. At the same time Jenni Konner joining as an executive producer.
  14. In February 2022, it was announced Matt Shakman would replace Bahrani as director and executive producer
  15. Upon the initial announcement, Kumail Nanjiani was announced to star in the series.
  16. Nanjiani was first offered a role in the series in 2017, but at the time wasn’t sure if he wanted to play a “bad guy” Indian immigrant.
  17. By the time the project came back around a few years later, he had a different perspective, and was more open to portraying such a character.
  18. In January 2022, Murray Bartlett, and Annaleigh Ashford joined the cast of the series
  19. In February, Dan Stevens was announced as another series regular, with Quentin Plair and Andrew Rannells in a recurring capacity, and Nicola Peltz as a guest star.
  20. In March, Robin de Jesús and Juliette Lewis joined the cast in recurring and series regular roles, respectively.

  22. The character Denise, played by Juliette Lewis, is not a real person but she does share some similarities with Candace Mayeron who was affiliated with Chippendales.
  23. Dan Stevens wears brown contacts to cover his naturally blue eyes.
  24. Steve and Irene Banerjee also had a son named Christian, who’s not depicted in the series.
  25. Christian works as a male stripper under the name Christian Bane and as of 2022 has started his own male reveu called Strippendales.
  26. The Otis character is loosely based on Chippendales first black dancer Hodari Sababu. Like Otis on the series Sababu was excluded from the Chippendales calendar and quit after getting into a fight with Steve Banerjee when he tried to make his own calendar. Though unlike the Oties character who shook Banerjee’s hand and left Sababu punched Banerjee over a financial dispute. Sababu started his own male revue show featuring black dancers called Lady Killers.
  27. There’s no indication that Irene Banerjee ever left Steve as depicted in this series, they also did not divorce until 1994 when Steve was arrested and plead guilty to the charges against him. They Banerjee’s also had another child, a son Christian born 1990, not depicted in the series. Following Steve’s arrest Irene organized a group of character witnesses in an attempt to get him a reduced sentence. When Steve committed suicide before his sentencing the U.S. government was unable to seize his shares of Chippendales as per his plea deal, and Irene inherited the shares property and financial assets associated with the company. Irene sold Chippendales to a private owner for 2.5 million, she passed away from breast cancer on February 8th 2001.
  28. In the series Ray Colon is depicted as a handy man hired by Irene. In real life Colon was a former Palm Springs police officer and lounge room entertainer who frequented the bar at Chippendales. Like on the series Colon was hired by Steve Banerjee to have Nick De Noia killed.
  29. A major person of importance to the real story of the FBI’s investigation into Nick De Noia’s murder and Steve Banerjee’s eventual arrest and conviction is not depicted in the series; an FBI informant code named Strawberry. Strawberry was hired by Ray Colon to kill two former Chippendales dancers who had started their own male revue called Adonis Men of Hollywood, which was touring in the UK at the time.
  30. Strawberry did not go through with the killings, instead returning to the States and informing the FBI of the plot, which lead them to Colon, who cooperated with the FBI to get a taped confession from Banerjee in exchange for a reduced sentence. Strawberry went into witness protection and waa interviewed for the 2021 documentary series Curseof the Chippendales.
