  1. Uncharted is an upcoming American action-adventure film.
  2. It was directed by Ruben Fleischer.
  3. The screenplay was written by Rafe Lee Judkins, Art Marcum and Matt Holloway.
  4. It is based on the video game series of the same name developed by Naughty Dog.
  5. In the film stars Tom Holland as Nathan Drake, and Mark Wahlberg as his mentor Victor Sullivan, along with Sophia Ali, Tati Gabrielle and Antonio Banderas in supporting roles.
  6. The film entered development in 2008.
  7. The film producer Avi Arad stating that he would be working with Sony Pictures to develop a film adaptation of Uncharted.
  8. The film entered a complicated production process, with various directors, writers, and cast members attached at various points.
  9. Several filmmakers, including David O. Russell, Neil Burger, Seth Gordon, Shawn Levy, Dan Trachtenberg and Travis Knight were initially signed to direct the project, while Nathan Fillion, Chris Pratt and Wahlberg were rumored to play Drake.
  10. Holland was cast in May 2017.
  11. Principal photography commenced in March 2020, finishing the following October.
  12. In the early stages of production, Mark Wahlberg, Robert De Niro & Joe Pesci were all slated to be in the movie with David O’Russell directing the film.
  13. Since then all three and the director dropped out of the project. Wahlberg would later be cast as Sully.
  14. Nathan Fillion has shown interest in the role stating “I think every actor I know desires to have an action hero role, their Indiana Jones. I think this would be a good one for me.” Fillion later played Nathan Drake in the short film Uncharted: Live Action Fan Film (2018), for which gained very positive feedback from fans of the games. However, that film was neither authorized nor endorsed by Naughty Dog or Sony.

  16. The film was originally scheduled for release on June 10, 2016. On August 5, 2015, Sony Pictures Entertainment pushed the film’s release date back to June 30, 2017. It was pushed back again to December 18, 2020. The film became pushed back again to July 16, 2021, due to the halted production.
  17. Bryan Cranston, Jake Gyllenhaal, Chris Pratt, Chris Pine, Chris Hemsworth, Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson were all being considered for Sully before the role went to Mark Wahlberg.
  18. After finishing filming, Tom Holland began filming Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) just days later.
  19. The studio chose Seth Gordon to direct, but Gordon left due to creative differences.
  20. The film will serve as a prequel to the games.
  21. Mark Wahlberg has stated in an interview with IGN that he’s only signed for one film.
  22. The movie took some inspiration from Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (2016) which is Tom Holland’s favorite video game in the series.

  25. Naughty Dog approached Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg several times to write the screenplay. They declined, saying it would be just another Indiana Jones movie.
  26. Tom Holland told GQ that he never realized how lucky he is that Spider-Man wears a mask, because when he’s bouncing around and flying from buildings, that’s all CG, and in the film, it’s just him in a henley and cargo pants. That film absolutely broke him.
  27. Mark Wahlberg compared the movie to Indiana Jones and The Thomas Crown Affair with elements of heist movies and adventure movies.
  28. Uncharted is scheduled to be theatrically released by Sony Pictures Releasing on February 11, 2022 in the United Kingdom, and on February 18 in the United States.
  29. Fans started a campaign to have Brett Dalton as Drake with the hashtag #BrettforNate.
  30. Tom Holland said during an Instagram live stream with Justin Bieber that after one day of shooting in Berlin the production had to stop due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  31. In April 2021, Sony signed deals with Netflix and The Walt Disney Company for the streaming rights to their 2022 to 2026 film slate, including Uncharted, following the films’ theatrical and home media windows.
  32. On August 5, 2020, Banderas temporarily left production after he tested positive for coronavirus.On August 26, 2020, Banderas recovered from coronavirus , returning to production soon after.
  33. In the beginning of October 2020, the production shot scenes in Alicante and Valencia, Spain, including the coastal town of Xàbia.
  34. In July 2021, the film was undergoing reshoots in Madrid.
  35. Neil Berger was originally hired to replaced David O’Russell as director, but dropped out to work on Divergent (2014).
