The Mummy is an upcoming American action-adventure horror film directed by Alex Kurtzman. Let’s see some amazing facts and trivia about it!

1.It is written by Jon Spaihts and Christopher McQuarrie.

2. On April 4, 2012, Universal Studios announced that they are developing the reboot of The Mummy franchise, with Jon Spaihts to write the film and Sean Daniel, who produced the previous three films, returning as producer.

3. On May 1, 2012, Universal signed on with Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman a two-year deal to produce the reboot through their K/O Paper Products banner.

4.  In December 2012, it was being said that The Mummy reboot will be different from the classic trilogy; it will be a completely new take on the mythology, and it will be set in modern day.

5. On February 14, 2013, Universal set The Hunger Games writer Billy Ray to write a competitive draft for the reboot against Spaihts’ written script.

6. On July 31, 2013, Wiseman left the project due to scheduling conflicts.

7. In October 2013, Orci spoke to IGN, hinting that both The Mummy and Van Helsing reboots will have a shared universe.

8. On May 6, 2014, Muschetti left the film due to creative differences, while Spaihts wrote the latest draft of the script, which reimagined The Mummy franchise in modern day with new characters not seen in previous iterations and a protagonist imbued with a human personality.

9. On July 16, 2014, Universal announced that they had tapped Kurtzman and Chris Morgan to develop all their classic film monsters, which include Frankenstein’s monster, Count Dracula, The Wolf Man, Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Invisible Man, Bride of Frankenstein, and The Mummy.

10. The first film they will develop together will be The Mummy, for which they had already begun meetings.[24] On July 30, Kurtzman was set to direct the film.

11. In January 2016, it was confirmed that Tom Cruise and Boutella had officially signed on to star in the film.

12. On March 8, 2016, Annabelle Wallis was cast in the film to play Jenny Halsey, and following her Jake Johnson also joined the cast of the film to play a military soldier, in a role specifically written for him.

13. On March 14, Marwan Kenzari was also cast in the film in an unspecified role.

14. On May 4, 2016, Deadline.com, THR and Variety reported that Russell Crowe was in talks for the role of Dr. Henry Jekyll after Javier Bardem, Eddie Redmayne, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Tom Hardy were considered

15. Principal photography on the film began on April 3, 2016 in Oxford, United Kingdom.

16. It also filmed in Surrey

17. Production then moved to Namibia for two weeks with principal photography on the film being completed on August 13, 2016.

18. Universal Pictures had previously scheduled the film to be released on March 24, 2017, but has now reportedly postponed the release to June 9, 2017.

19.The film’s tagline, “Welcome to a new world of gods and monsters”, is a quote from Bride of Frankenstein (1935), which was also produced by Universal.

20.Ironically, while casting the male lead in The Mummy (1999), Tom Cruise was considered before director Stephen Sommers eventually selected Brendan Fraser. Eighteen years later, Cruise plays the lead in this reboot of the franchise.

21. Baltasar Kormákur was offered the opportunity to direct, but turned it down.
