  1. Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins is also known simply as Snake Eyes.
  2. It is a 2021 American superhero film.
  3. It was directed by Robert Schwentke.
  4. The screenplay is written by Evan Spiliotopoulos, Joe Shrapnel, and Anna Waterhouse.
  5. It is based on Hasbro’s G.I. Joe franchise.
  6. The film serves as an origin story for the title character, G.I. Joe.
  7. The original character was created by Larry Hama, in addition to being a reboot of the G.I. Joe film series.
  8. It stars Henry Golding as Snake Eyes, with Andrew Koji, Úrsula Corberó, Samara Weaving, Haruka Abe, Takehiro Hira, and Iko Uwais in supporting roles.
  9. The project was first announced in May 2018, with Golding being cast in the titular role in August 2019.
  10. The the rest of the cast joined in subsequent months.
  11. The initial filming took place in Vancouver and Japan from October 2019 to February 2020.
  12. The reshoots took place in March 2021.
  13. Snake Eyes was theatrically released in the United States on July 23, 2021, by Paramount Pictures.

  16. In May 2018, it was announced the next installment of the G.I. Joe franchise would be a spin-off film chronicling the origins of the character Snake Eyes.
  17. In December, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura stated that Ray Park, who had played the character in the previous films, would not reprise his role for the spin-off.
  18. Robert Schwentke was set as director the same month.
  19. In August 2019, Henry Golding was cast to star in the title role.
  20. Andrew Koji was then cast as Storm Shadow, taking over the role from Lee Byung-hun, who played the character in the previous films.
  21. In September, Iko Uwais entered negotiations to join the film as Hard Master, and Úrsula Corberó was cast as Baroness.
  22. Uwais was confirmed in October, with Haruka Abe, Samara Weaving and Takehiro Hira added to the cast.
  23. Steven Allerick was announced as part of the cast in December.
  24. Golding’s Instagram revealed that Peter Mensah would play Blind Master, taking over the role from RZA in the previous films.
  25. Originally, Koji was not interested in a role in a GI Joe movie but ultimately couldn’t pass the opportunity.
  26. Filming began on October 15, 2019 in Vancouver and was expected to continue until December 9.
  27. Filming moved to Japan on January 10, 2020.
  28. It wrapped on February 26, 2020.
  29. As of August 22, 2021, Snake Eyes has grossed $28.1 million in the United States and Canada, and $8.7 million in other territories, for a worldwide total of $36.8 million.
  30. With a production budget of at least $88 million, the film will need to gross $160–175 million in order to break-even.
  31. The film originally replaced G.I. Joe: Ever Vigilant release date of March 27, 2020 but was later pushed back to October 16, 2020 which was the original release date for Micronauts but was postponed to October 22, 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic but it was later moved up to July 23, 2021.
  32. Snake-Eyes is changed from a Caucasian character seen from the comics, animated series, and both of the live action films to a mixed race character due to actor Henry Golding who’s both English and Malaysian.
  33. Tommy’s grandmother Sen (Eri Ishida) is based on Obake Obaasan (“Demon Granny”), Storm Shadow’s aunt in the comics.

  35. Samara Weaving is the niece of Hugo Weaving who voiced Megatron in Michael Bay’s first three Transformers live-action movies, also based on a Hasbro property.
  36. It was announced by producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura that Ray Park won’t be reprising his role as Snake Eyes in the spin off.

Simon Waters, who oversees consumer products at Hasbro Studios, said the company wants to take “a more millennial approach.” As he explains, “The world has changed, and I think you’re going to see G.I. Joe changing with it,” he said. “There’s going to be a much more contemporary approach to the whole thing, and that will allow us to develop different characters. “
  38. Dean Muhtadi is the third WWE wrestler to be in G.I. Joe after Robert Remus who played Sergeant Slaughter in several G.I. Joe cartoons and Dwayne Johnson in G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013).

  44. The name Tommy calls himself at the end of the movie is “Storm Shadow” which is a direct translation of the “Arashikage” clan name (arashi = storm) + (kage = shadow)
  45. On review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an approval rating of 38% based on 132 reviews, with an average rating of 5/10.
