The series follows Dorothy and Sean Turner, a Philadelphia couple who hire a girl named Leanne Grayson to be the nanny for their infant son Jericho, a reborn doll. Leanne’s arrival brings about strange and frightening occurrences for the couple.
The series stars Lauren Ambrose, Toby Kebbell, Nell Tiger Free and Rupert Grint as the four central characters.
The series is produced for Apple TV+.
It debuted on November 28, 2019.
The series has been met with positive reviews from critics.
Ahead of the premiere, Apple renewed Servant for a second season, which premiered on January 15, 2021.
In December 2020, ahead of the second season premiere, the series was renewed for a third season.
The third season premiered on January 21, 2022.
In December 2021, ahead of the third season premiere, the series was renewed for a ten-episode fourth and final season.
The first season of Servant was filmed in Philadelphia from November 2018 to March 2019.

Philadelphia chef Drew DiTomo was the food consultant for season two, spending many days making pizzas and teaching the cast to make the pizzas that served as the basis for Cheezus Crust, the fictional pizza delivery company that Sean and Dorothy created during the season.
In February 2021, it was reported that production on season three had begun.
In an interview with Backstage, Grint revealed that unlike many film and television productions, Servant is filmed chronologically, with the cast getting scripts as they film each episode, keeping them just as much a part of the mystery as the characters and viewers.
Reportedly Apple CEO Tim Cook asked Shyamalan to not display crucifixes on the walls during filming.
In exchange for allowing filming in their home, the homeowners declined the normal location fee from the production company and instead asked the producers to donate the fee to pediatric brain tumor research at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The producers agreed and have donated additional funds to this research beyond the typical location fee.
Producer M. Night Shyamalan said he envisions the show to last for four seasons
The series was originally set in a nameless place, then changed to London and then New York City. When M. Night Shyamalan joined the project, the setting was changed to Philadelphia.

In January 2020, Francesca Gregorini, director of The Truth About Emmanuel (2013) filed a lawsuit against M. Night Shyamalan and Tony Basgallop accusing them of stealing the idea for this series from her film. Shyamalan and Basgallop both denied the charge saying they had never seen her film and it was just a coincidence.

Except for American Lauren Ambrose (Dorothy), the other top-billed stars Nell Tiger Free (Leanne), Toby Kebbell (Sean) and Rupert Grint (Julian) are all British actors. This series marks their first time working together.
