Rings Trivia: 18 interesting facts about the film!

Rings is an upcoming 2016 American supernatural psychological horror film. Let’s see some amazing facts and trivia we already know about it!

1. This is the third feature film in the American franchise based on the Japanese horror film Ring, following The Ring and The Ring Two.

2. The film is produced by Laurie MacDonald. The film stars Matilda Lutz, Alex Roe and Johnny Galecki.

3. The film will be released on October 28, 2016.

4. It is directed by F. Javier Gutiérrez, and written by David Loucka, Jacob Estes and Akiva Goldsman.

5. The plot is about a young woman who becomes worried about her boyfriend when he explores a dark subculture surrounding a mysterious videotape said to kill the watcher seven days after they have viewed it. She sacrifices herself to save her boyfriend and in doing so makes a horrifying discovery: there is a “movie within the movie” that no one has ever seen before…

6. Paramount Pictures announced the initially titled The Ring 3D with F. Javier Gutiérrez directing.

7. In August 2014, Paramount was in talks with Akiva Goldsman to write a third draft of the screenplay, previously worked on by David Loucka and Jacob Aaron Estes.

8. In November, Gutiérrez posted an Instagram photo that showed that the current title of the sequel is Rings.

9. On January 16, 2015, Matilda Lutz was added to the cast for the lead role. Alex Roe was cast for the male lead role on March 20, 2015.

10. The film had been rumored to be a prequel, however Gutierrez had stated that was not true and that the film is taking place 13 years after the events of The Ring.

11. Speaking at CinemaCon, Paramount Vice Chairman Rob Moore said that should the film prove successful, more sequels could recur annually taking the place of Paramount’s Paranormal Activity series.

12. Long before the movie of 2002 premiered, the killer video was used as a commercial. The commercial did not mention any movie for nearly a month.

13. On its first week of release in the U.S. and Canada, the movie of 2002 select cinemas put actual copies of the cursed tape on seats for unsuspecting viewers as freebies.

14. The red Japanese maple of Ring 2002 (seen in the video) was artificial, built out of steel tubing and plaster, with painted silk for the leaves. (The crew dubbed it “Lucille” after “a certain red-haired actress”). While filming in Washington state, the tree was erected three times, only to have it knocked over by nearly 100-mile-an-hour wind gusts. In Los Angeles it was erected for a fourth time, only to be blown down again, this time by 60-mile-an-hour winds.

15. This is the first film in the series that the makeup effects were not done by Rick Baker, who had the previous two. Rick retired from the industry in early 2015 and left his studio, Cinovation, to his protégée Arjen Tuiten, who had worked with him on Maleficent. While Rick had no ivolvement with this project, some of his crew, who had worked on the previous two with him, worked on this film with Arjen at his studio now called R-E-N.

16. Before starring as Samara in this film, Bonnie Morgan was also featured in The Ring Two (2005) as Samara in the well crawling sequence, though she was uncredited.

17. According to special makeup effects designer on the film, Arjen Tuiten, it took about 6 and a half hours to complete Samara’s makeup and her costume featured a water rig under the dress that allowed the character to constantly drip water.

18. It was filmed in Atlanta.
