  18. Alan Ritchson said he thought that playing Jack Reacher, a man of few words, would be a cinch in terms of dialogue.
  19. That was until he had a scene describing a case in great detail, where he had to spew out four pages of monologue in 30 seconds. That required some extra study at night.
  20. British author of the best-selling books, Lee Child, has often said that his readers were never wholly satisfied with Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher, not because of his acting, but because his physique never quite measured up to the giant of a man in the novels.
  21. Child emphasized that he had nothing but respect for Cruise as an actor, and that he’d immensely enjoyed his company and friendship over the production period of both Reacher films. Furthermore, as he’d begun to anticipate the move to episodic television for his Jack Reacher novels, and Cruise had never expressed any interest in being part of such a series, Child was hoping to see a relatively unknown actor cast in the title role.
  22. First season is based on the first Jack Reacher book; “Killing Floor”
  23. The second series will be based on book 11 Bad Luck and Trouble. Alan Ritchson will be back as Reacher and Maria Sten will return as Neagley.
  24. Multiple times in the series, Reacher declares himself to be a hobo rather than a vagrant; the comment is made once in the book, but without any explication. While both terms generally reflect the idea of being a homeless wanderer and are often used interchangeably, there are some differences between the terms that the pedantic Reacher would feel to be important. Historically, a hobo sought to work wherever they traveled, where a vagrant would beg or steal for their sustenance.
  25. A hobo generally tried to show respect to their host community, as embodied in what was once an actual code of ethics. Vagrancy has been associated with a number of crimes and social ills; U.S. vagrancy laws were frequently enacted to try to combat public drunkenness, prostitution, petty theft, and other problems attributed to the transient population. Reacher views himself as someone who helps the communities he visits, rather than being a nuisance.
  26. Remarkably, for a production of this size and scale, show-runner Nick Santora never once met either lead star Alan Ritchson or Reacher book series writer Lee Child in person.
  27. The entire process of designing the show, writing, auditioning, etc was done by him over zoom. At the time of the first season’s release on Amazon Prime streaming, he still hadn’t met them in person.
  28. There are over 20 books written with Jack Reacher as the main character. He is described as 6’5″ (196 cm) and 250 lbs (113 kg).
  29. In the movies Tom Cruise plays the massive ex-soldier, although he doesn’t fit the physical description. Cruise is maybe 5’7″ (170 cm) and 175 lbs (79 kg).
  30. Alan Ritchson is 6’2″ (188 cm) and 235 lbs (106 kg), which are closer to the correct measures described for Reacher.
  31. According to the novels by Lee Child, Jack Reacher served thirteen years in the United States Army Military Police Corps. He was “mustered out” and honorably discharged at the rank of Major.
  32. Prior to the series launch, Alan Ritchson revealed on the Kelly Clarkson Show that his weight was 205 lbs. He packed on 30 lbs to gain more strength and muscle in order to become Reacher.
  33. The real Blind Blake died in Milwaukee in 1934 of pneumonia.

  35. A luxury edition of this car is equipped with a V12 engine capable of speeds above 200mph
  36. In many instances in the series other characters speak to Reacher and receive no reply. This is an aspect of the novels where in response to dialog Lee Child writes: “Reacher said nothing”. This is so prevalent that fans of the novels have running counts on how many time Reacher said nothing in each book
  37. Alan Ritchson (Reacher) and Kristin Kreuk (Charlene Hubble, the banker’s wife) were both on the TV series Smallville. Kreuk played Lana Lang on that series and Ritchson played Arthur Curry/Aquaman.
  38. When Finlay is talking about Reacher’s height, Reacher corrects him saying he is 6 foot 5 inches. Alan Ritchson is 6 foot 2 inches
  39. Police Chief’s house in episode 2 is located in the Devil’s Elbow neighbourhood in Markham, Ontario.
  40. S1E3 12:58, vitamin bottle in medicine cabinet, sold at Shopper’s Drug Mart, a Canadian pharmacy chain, with French translation of “fast acting”, clearly visible as “Action plus rapide”. Clearly not in rural Georgia.
  41. The garage where reacher takes the Bentley to get its windows tinted and borrows the mini van is located in Hamilton, Ontario at Parkdale Avenue and Burlington Steet E. It would look perfectly at home in rural Georgia at the best of times.
  42. Although according to the novels by Lee Child, Jack Reacher served thirteen years in the United States Army Military Police Corps. He was “mustered out” and honorably discharged at the rank of Major. However, in the series and in all of the Reacher books Reacher being RETIRED has never been explained.
  43. Reacher went to West Point and you do not receive time toward retirement for the time in the academy. So, Reacher only had 13 years in and thus does not meet the requirements for the basic 20-year retirement. Nothing has ever been mentioned about a medical retirement.
  44. “His shoes were bench-made by a company called Cheaney, from Northampton in England. The style Reacher had chosen was called Tenterden, which was a brown semi-brogue made of heavy pebbled leather. Size twelve. The soles were heavy composite items bought in from a company called Dainite. Reacher hated leather soles. They wore out too fast and stayed wet too long after rain. Dainites were better. Their heels were a five-layer stack an inch and a quarter thick. The Cheaney leather welt, the Dainite welt, two slabs of hard Cheaney leather, and a thick Dainite cap. Each shoe on its own weighed more than two pounds”. In the series Reacher is seen wearing Red Wing Iron Ranger Muleskinners – of equal quality and engineering as the Tenterden’s.
  45. In episode 4. Reacher is watching some workers load and unload some product. As they walk by a loader, the bucket on the loader says H&H. H&H manufacturing is a company based out of Burlington Ontario. Side note: A H&H bucket also helped tear down Paul Bernardo’s house.
  46. It’s probably a coincidence, but Roscoe Conklin shares the names of two famous silent comedians who both worked for Mack Sennett: Roscoe Arbuckle and Chester Conklin.
  47. Joe Reacher is called Joseph by several characters, including his mother. In the books Joe is not short for anything, his name is simply Joe.
  48. Author Lee Child has a small cameo role in all three Reacher productions. In the movie Jack Reacher Lee Child plays a Desk Sergeant and in Reacher: Never go Back Child plays a TSA agent. In Amazon’s Reacher Lee Child plays a customer leaving the diner as Reacher comes in to finally get that piece of peach pie.
  49. In Episode 6 Reacher understands and speaks Farsi with his Middle Eastern-American cab driver.
  50. In the novels he is only proficient in French, Spanish and German (at varying levels) outside of English.
