Power Rangers Trivia: 37 fun facts about the film!

Power Rangers is an upcoming 2016 American superhero dilm directed by Dean Israelite. Let’ see some amazing facts and trivia about it!

1. It is written by John Gatins, Kieran Mulroney, Michele Mulroney, Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless

2. The film is based on the franchise of the same name. As the third film based on the Power Rangers property and serves as a reboot and reimagining of the franchise.

3. It stars Dacre Montgomery, Naomi Scott, RJ Cyler, Becky G, Ludi Lin, Bill Hader, Bryan Cranston and Elizabeth Banks.

4. It  marks the first Power Ranger film since 1997’s Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie.

5. The film features most of the main characters of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers although portrayed by a new cast.

6. Franchise creator Haim Saban returned to produce the film under Saban Capital Group.

7. Power Rangers will be released in the United States on March 24, 2017.

8. The synopsis: Five troubled teenage student outcasts – Zack, Kimberly, Billy, Trini, and Jason – become the Power Rangers after learning that their town of Angel Grove and the world itself are threatened by Rita Repulsa and her alien forces.

9. Saban Capital Group and Lionsgate first announced the film in March 2014.

10. Roberto Orci was originally attached to produce and Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz were hired to write the script for the film.

11. Orci would eventually leave the project to work on Star Trek Beyond.

12. On April 10, 2015, TheWrap reported that Dean Israelite was in negotiations to direct the film.

13. Israelite told IGN in an interview that the film will be “completely playful, and it needs to be really fun and funny.

14. But like Project Almanac, it’s going to feel very grounded at the same time, and very contemporary and have a real edge to it, and a real gut to it, it’s going to be a fun, joyful [movie] but one that feels completely grounded in a real world, with real characters going through real things.”

15. Brian Tyler was brought on to compose the film.

16. Filming was originally set to begin on January 2016  but was rescheduled and began on February 29 in Vancouver.

17. On May 28, 2016, filming was complete. Additional filming occurred in October 2016

18.A fictional Angel Grove High School Newspaper website was created alongside the official Power Rangers website which features a GIF creator which allows users to make a GIF out of scenes from the teaser trailer.

19. There is also going to be an official toy line produced by Bandai and an extensive merchandising range to promote the film.

20. Additionally, Max Landis, who was fired from writing the film, criticized the trailer.

21. He claimed it looked like Chronicle, a movie that he himself had wrote.

22. The trailer was met with mixed reactions, some praised it for its darker, contemporary reimagining of the classic characters while still looking action-packed and fun at the same time, but others criticized the lack of relation to the original series and the trailer appearing cookie cutter.

23. Liongate revealed the T-Rex zord toy on 28 October 2016, amongst other toys, and the Power Rangers Twitter account revealed the megazord toy on November 4, 2016.

24. Lionsgate and Saban in collaboration with nWay Games are developing a PvP fighting video game to coincide with the films’ release

25. Jon Feltheimer, CEO of Lionsgate, in a conference call to analysts said “We could see doing five or six or seven.

26. Bryan Cranston, who plays Zordon in the film, had previously voiced the monsters Twin Man and Snizzard in Power Rangers (1993). Additionally, the first Blue Ranger Billy Cranston was named after Cranston himself.

27. It is actually the first theatrical Power Rangers movie in 20 years.

28. The Power Ranger uniforms have been upgraded from spandex armor to an alien crystal that forms around the rangers

29. In Trini’s bedroom there is a window that features a circle with a tiger’s head; this was the Yellow Ranger’s original Power Coin design in Power Rangers (1993).

30. The producers cite Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man films and the teen dramedy Breakfast Club (1985) as an influence on the film.

31. Elizabeth Banks (Rita Repulsa in this film) co-starred in Raimi’s Spider-Man films as Betty Brant.

32. At one point the Yellow Ranger Trini wears a shirt that reads 1973. This was the year that the original Trini Thuy Trang was born.

33. Stefanie Scott and AnnaSophia Robb were considered for the role of Kimberly Ann Hart

34. In an early draft (D-2) by Max Landis, the writer switched the colors of both Kimberly and Zack. Making Zack Pink and Kimberly Black.

35. Unlike in Power Rangers (1993) where Kimberly is romantic involved with Tommy and in Power Rangers Zeo (1996) where Jason is romantic involved with Emily, Jason and Kimberly are romantic involved with each other in the film which is shown in the trailer. It is not known as of 11/27/16 if they are in fact in a relationship. It could be manipulation from Rita, the villain in the movie.

36. Rita Repulsa’s design is based on her henchman Scorpina (scaly and skimpy), and is colored green and gold, like her personal Power Ranger the Green Ranger. She also bears on her staff the Green Power Coin, which she used to empower her personal Power Ranger, the Green Ranger Tommy Oliver.

37. The film is influenced by the original Power Rangers (1993) show (Rita Repulsa comes to Earth and the Power Rangers are formed to stop her) and Power Rangers DinoThunder (2004) (a group of misfit teenagers become Rangers).
