Oscars 2019 trivia: 61 facts about the 91st Academy Awards!

The nominations for the 91st Academy Awards were handed out yesterday. Hollywood is swept up with the preparations.

  1. The 91st Academy Awards ceremony, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), will honor the best films of 2018
  2. It will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California
  3. The ceremony will be held on February 24, 2019
  4. During the ceremony, AMPAS will present Academy Awards (commonly referred to as Oscars) in 24 categories
  5. The ceremony will be televised in the United States by American Broadcasting Company (ABC)
  6. It will be produced by Donna Gigliotti and Glenn Weiss
  7. Weiss is also serving as director
  8. The Academy held its 10th Annual Governors Awards ceremony at the Grand Ballroom of the Hollywood and Highland Center
  9. It was held on November 18, 2018
  10. On Febraury 4, 2019, is the nominees luncheon
  11. Final voting for the Oscars 2019 begins on February 12
  12. And it ends on February 19

  17. The Academy held its 10th annual Governors Awards ceremony on November 18, 2018

  19. Cicely Tyson – American actress
  20. Lalo Schifrin – Argentine-born American composer
  21. Marvin Levy – American publicis
  22. For the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award were:
  23. Kathleen Kennedy – American producer
  24. Frank Marshall – American produce
  25. Due to the mixed receptions and declining ratings for the last two ceremonies, producers Michael De Luca and Jennifer Todd declined to helm the Oscar production
  26. They were replaced by Donna Gigliotti and Glenn Weiss as producers
  27. On August 8, 2018, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the creation of a brand new category, Best Popular Film, to reward the best popular films of the year
  28. The category was met with exceedingly negative reception
  29. The following month, the Academy announced that the category will be delayed to “examine and seek additional input regarding the new category”
  30. On December 4, 2018, it was announced that Kevin Hart would host the ceremony
  31. Hart expressed that it was truly an honor and a thrill to be asked to host the Academy Awards
  32. A controversy emerged when past jokes and comments made by Hart were found to contain anti-gay slurs and language
  33. Hart withdrew from hosting duties on December 6, saying he did not want to be a “distraction” to the ceremony
  34. Previous Oscar hosts such as Seth MacFarlane, Ellen DeGeneres, Neil Patrick Harris, Chris Rock, and Jimmy Kimmel expressed no interest in hosting the show
  35. On January 9, 2019, it was reported that the Academy was planning to hold the ceremony without a host, instead having selected presenters introduce segments and awards
  36. It is set to be the first ceremony without a designated host since the 61st Academy Awards in 1989
  37. It is rumored that the actors from the Avengers will be some kind of hosts
  38. At the time of the nominations announcement on January 22, 2019, the combined gross of the seven Best Picture nominees at the North American box offices was $1,260.8 billion

  40. Due to Roma being a Netflix release there are no known grosses
  41. Thirty-two nominations went to 12 films on the list of the top 50 grossing movies of the year

Of those 6 films, only Black Panther (1st), Incredibles 2 (3rd), A Star Is Born (12th), Bohemian Rhapsody (13th), Ralph Breaks the Internet (14th), and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (18th) were nominated for Best Picture, Best Animated Feature or any of the directing, acting or screenwriting awards
  43. The other top 50 box-office hits that earned nominations were Avengers: Infinity War (2nd), Solo: A Star Wars Story (10th), A Quiet Place (15th), Mary Poppins Returns (19th), Ready Player One (24th), and Christopher Robin (34th)
  44. The most nominations where given to The Favourite and Roma both with 10
  45. Vice and A Star is Born have 8
  46. 7 nominations for Black Panther
  47. 6 for BlacKkKlansman
  48. 5 for Bohemian Rhapsody and Green Book
  49. 4 for First Man and Mary Poppins Returns
  50. 3 for Cold War, Can You Ever Forgive Me? and The Ballad of Buster Scruggs
  51. And 2 for Isle of Dogs, Never Look Away, RBG and Mary Queen of Scots
  52. The studio with the most nominations is Walt Disney Studios with 16
  53. Followed with 15 by Fox Searchlight Pictures
  54. Netflix has 15
  55. The best showing for the streaming service

  57. 9 for Warner Bros and Universal Pictures
  58. 8 for Focus Features
