Noelle Trivia | 30 facts about the Christmas movie

«Noelle» is a 2019 American Christmas fantasy comedy film written and directed by Marc Lawrence. It was one of the first movies available on Disney+.

  1. Anna Kendrick wanted to star in the film because she always wanted to be part of a holiday feature that families would be able to re-watch together over the years.
  2. Filming began in 2017 and the film was originally scheduled for a theatrical release.
  3. However, Disney decided to postpone the film and release along with the launch of their streaming platform Disney Plus, in order to give the platform more value.
  4. The riff that Noelle sings to summon her flying reindeer is the same one she used in Into the woods (2014) as Cinderella when she summoned her bird friends.
  5. The movie was originally named “Nicole” but as an attempt to ramp up the Christmas theme of the movie, it was changed to Noelle.
  6. It was one of the first films available on the Disney+ streaming service upon its launch on November 12, 2019.
  7. Hidden Mickey as part of the Coat of Arms on the back wall of the fire place at the start of the film.

  9. The clips from surrounding areas of the mall are actually around Desert Ridge Marketplace, a real mall in Phoenix, AZ.
  10. However, the parts where Noelle can be seen walking around the mall, were clearly not filmed at Desert Ridge Mall. Some of the stores shown, like Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Kors and Taco Bell are not stores at the actual mall, but used in the film for product placement.
  11. Marc Lawrence wrote and directed this film. His son, Clyde Lawrence, helped write the soundtrack. His daughter, Gracie Lawrence starred in the film as the reporter and performed several of the songs on the soundtrack.
  12. Elf Carol, played by Gracie Lawrence is the lead singer of Lawrence the Band. Her brother Clyde Lawrence created the soundtrack for this film along with Cody Fitzgerald. Gracie can be heard singing in a number of songs.
  13. After Noelle says she’s from up north, Alex asks if she means Canada. Noelle answers “Canada wishes”. The movie was actually partly filmed in Canada.
  14. Billy Eichner’s second Disney film of 2019 after The Lion King (2019).
  15. A running joke throughout the movie is everyone wants an iPad for Christmas. The iPad is developed by Apple. Apple’s founder, the late Steve Jobs, was at one time Disney’s biggest stock holder.
  16. Baby reindeer, like Snowy, don’t make sounds like the bleating of baby goats. Baby reindeer sounds are more grunting and honking.
  17. When we first see Noelle as an adult, she is making a card using a lot of glitter. This is similar character behavior of Anna Kendrick character in Trolls (2016), Princess Poppy.
  18. This is the only Disney+ film of 2010s to be rated G by the MPA This is the first Disney’s live-action film to be rated G by the MPAA since Hannah Montana: The movie plus it was only G rated Live Action film of 2019.
  19. The first Marc Lawrence movie that doesn’t star Hugh Grant.In the scene at the store where Noelle is in the freezer, you can see a Disney Duffy doll behind her, and just after that, a guest is seen purchasing a Shellie May doll.
  20. The seventh of very few live action films of the 2010s to be Rated G by the MPAA.
  21. There is also a character in Archie Comics named Noelle Claus who is Santa’s daughter.
  22. Kingsley Ben-Adir and Anna Kendrick would reunite in Love Life (2020).
  23. Anna Kendrick and Ron Funches were also both in the Trolls movies together.
  24. Jake only wears local sports team gear, like his Phoenix Suns and Arizona State University shirts.
  25. This is not Anna Kendrick’s first Christmas movies as she was also in Happy Christmas (2014)
  26. In the beginning of the movie, Santa kisses Mrs. Claus, then Noelle says to Nick, “I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus.” This is an obvious reference to the famous Christmas song.
  27. Much of the film takes place in Arizona, specifically, downtown Phoenix, and the Desert Ridge Mall, which is located not in Phoenix, but in North Scottsdale.
  28. This is Shaylee Mansfield’s first appearance in any movie or TV show.
  29. Michael Gross and Marc Lawrence both worked on the series Family Ties.
  30. Shaylee Mansfield’s debut.
