Mythic Quest Trivia | 30 facts about the series

«Mythic Quest» is an American comedy streaming television series created by Charlie Day, Megan Ganz, and Rob McElhenney for Apple TV+.

Let’s find out more about it!

  1. Mythic Quest is an American comedy streaming television series.
  2. The series is known as Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet for its first season.
  3. It was created by Charlie Day, Megan Ganz, and Rob McElhenney for Apple TV+.
  4. The series premiered on February 7, 2020.
  5. It follows a fictional video game studio that produces a popular MMORPG called Mythic Quest.
  6. Apple TV+ renewed the series for a second season on January 18, 2020, ahead of its first season premiere.
  7. In October 2021, the series was renewed for a third and fourth season.
  8. In March 2019, it was reported by The New York Times that filming of season one had concluded.
  9. The special, titled Mythic Quest: Quarantine, was written, shot, and edited in just three weeks, all remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic, using products supplied by Apple, such as iPhones.
  10. On November 11, 2020, Deadline Hollywood reported that the second season suspended production after positive COVID-19 tests of production team members.
  11. In December 2020, it was further reported that while Rob McElhenney claimed “to date there remains ZERO evidence of any transmission at work”, at least 12 members of the production staff that worked in close contact with one another had contracted COVID-19, marking the second cluster of COVID-19 cases linked to the Mythic Quest production, and prompting another production suspension.
  12. During a Mythic Quest panel at the Television Critics Association’s Winter Press Tour in February 2021, McElhenney stated that he “did not want to be known as the person who got F. Murray Abraham very, very ill”, elaborating that Abraham’s character was continuing to work remotely for the first few episodes, and did not actually shoot in person until episode seven of the second season, where COVID testing occurred “as many times as five days a week”
  13. Abraham’s scenes only included “very small amounts of people on camera”.
  14. In March 2021, Variety reported that a total of 26 crew members of Mythic Quest came down with COVID-19, making it “the worst outbreak of any show in Los Angeles”.
  15. The first season consisted of nine episodes.
  16. It was released on February 7, 2020.
  17. A special episode (“Quarantine”) focusing on the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic was released on May 22, 2020.
  18. A second special (“Everlight”) was released on April 16, 2021 prior to the second season premiere.
  19. The second season premiered on May 7, 2021 and was released with weekly episodes.
  20. On June 10, 2019, a trailer for the series was presented by McElhenney at Ubisoft’s E3 2019 press conference, where he announced that Mythic Quest would premiere in the fall of 2019.
  21. Ashly Burch, who plays the game tester Rachel, is no stranger to the video game industry: she has been a voice actress in more than thirty games, including Borderlands 3 (2019), Fortnite (2017), Horizon Zero Dawn (2017), Final Fantasy XV (2016) and Fallout 4 (2015).
  22. The creators wrote in the show’s bible that, under no circumstances, can Ian Grimm and Poppy Li have a romantic relationship or fall in love with one another. “One of the things we wanted to stress in this series is that a man and a woman can both be adults and be best friends with each other, with zero romance. We have evolved enough as a society where that is now ok, and we wanted that to be one of the bedrocks of the series,” said co-creator Megan Ganz in an interview
  23. The show was first announced at the 2019 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) by show star and creator Rob McElhenney. Making it the first time a TV series was shown at the event.
  24. The cinematic clips of the Mythic Quest game are actually from multiple games, including For Honor (2017); Kingdom Come Deliverance (2018) and Red Dead Redemption 2 (2018)
  25. The photo of C.W. Longbottom holding his Nebula Award is a photoshopped image of actor F. Murray Abraham holding his Oscar for the film Amadeus. This was later retconned into actor Josh Brener holding the award, who portrays the young C.W. in the episode “Backstory!”
  26. While inspired by many game developers, the character of Ian Grimm is mainly based on Jason Vandenberghe, former creative director of Ubisoft. The beard, bracelets and speech patterns are direct homages.
  27. The lead protagonist ‘Ian’ bears a close physical resemblance to Brandon Beck, founder of Riot Games and creator of the insanely popular multiplayer fantasy game ‘League of Legends’.
  28. “Montreal” is repeatedly mentioned by the show’s characters, often referred to as the higher-ups that they answer to. This is likely a reference to Ubisoft, the video game company and co-producer of the show. Their flagship studio is based in Montreal, Canada, and several of their games have been featured on the show
  29. When Brad (Danny Pudi) talks about what he cares about, he references DuckTales. In real life, Danny Pudi voiced Huey Duck in the 2017-2021 DuckTales reboot.
  30. In the Everlight episode (season 1 ep11) Ian’s shield is the Wrexham AFC badge. Rob McElhenney recently bought Wrexham AFC with Ryan Reynolds.
