The Justice League Trivia: 25 facts you didn’t know!

The Justice League, also known as the Justice League of America, is a fictional superhero team appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. Let’s see some awesome facts and trivia you probably didn’t know!

1. The Justice League was conceived by writer Gardner Fox, and first appeared in The Brave and the Bold #28

2. The team is an assemblage of superheroes who join together as the Justice League. The seven original members were Aquaman, Batman, the Flash, Green Lantern, the Martian Manhunter, Superman, and Wonder Woman and the team roster has rotated throughout the years, consisting of many superheroes from the DC Universe.

3. The Justice League received its own comic book title called Justice League of America in October 1960.

4. The Justice League are not the first major in the history of DC Comics, that honour goes to the Justice Society of America.

5. Three of DC’s other surviving or revived characters, Green Arrow the Atom and Hawkman were added to the roster over the next four years. 

6. From the start, the Justice League was a huge sales winner for DC as fans loved seeing so many heroes gathered together. One person who paid attention was Martin Goodman, publisher of what was then a line of monster/sci-fi comics who demanded a super-team of his own. As there were no heroes in the line, Stan Lee and Jack Kirby decided to create their own: The Fantastic Four.

7. The success of that book would lead them to create Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk and others and soon enough heroes to forge the Avengers. Thus, the JLA basically helped create their own competition although it wouldn’t be until 2003 that the two teams finally met in an epic crossover event that fans adored.

8. The very first enemy they faced was shown on the cover of Brave and the Bold #28: Starro, a giant alien starfish.

9. Generally, the purpose of the Justice League is to face intergalactic supervillains such as Darkseid and Brainiac.

10. Lex Luthor started a group to kill the Justice League. He hired Cheetah, The Shade, Solomon Grundy, Star Sapphire, Copperhead, and Ultra-Humanite.

11. The Joker volunteered to help Lex capture Batman.

12. The Justice League operated from a secret cave outside of the small town of Happy Harbor, Rhode Island.

13. They even had a mascot, a teenager named Lucas “Snapper” Carr, who tagged along on missions.

14. Lucas “Snapper” Carr was tricked by the Joker into giving away the location of the JLA’s first base and had to give up his membership. Surprisingly, DC brought the character back years later, more mature and able to teleport with his snaps and even becoming a member of spy agency Checkmate. Still, the man has to rank as possibly the most annoying teen sidekick in comic book history and a drag on the JLA’s early days.

15. The original story was the core Leaguers (Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Flash, Martian Manhunter and Aquaman) coming together to stop an alien invasion and forming the League afterward. When DC first revised their history after Crisis on Infinite Earths, Wonder Woman was said to have arrived years after the first wave of modern heroes. Thus, her place was taken by Black Canary in any League histories.

16. To prove her worthiness to rejoin the Justice League, Wonder Woman voluntarily underwent twelve trials analogous to the labors of Hercules, each of which was monitored in secret by a member of the JLA. After the conclusion of the storyline in Wonder Woman #222, the character’s return to the JLA occurred in a two-part story in Justice League of America #128-129 (March–April 1976).

17. After most of the original heroes fail to help fend off an invasion of Martians, Aquaman dissolves the League and rewrites its charter to allow only heroes who will devote their full-time to the roster.

18. The new team initially consists of Aquaman, Zatanna, Martian Manhunter, Elongated Man, the Vixen, and a trio of teenage heroes Gypsy, Steel, and Vibe. Aquaman leaves the team after a year, due to resolving marital problems, and his role as leader is assumed by the Martian Manhunter.

19. Hawkgirl left at the end of the second series of ‘Justice League’ due to her involvement in the Thanigarian invasion of Earth. When ‘Justice League Unlimited’ reached the end of the first series, she rejoined and became Shayera instead of Hawkgirl because everyone on Earth found out her identity during the Thanigarian invasion.

20. Hawkgirl and the Green Lantern were in love.

21.  After the invasion, Hawkirl went to live with Dr. Fate and eventually got to rejoin the Justice League. In the future, Green Lantern and Hawkgirl have a son named War Hawk.

22.In the first episode of the second series of ‘Justice League Unlimited’, Black Canary tell the Green Arrow why Wildcat is so important to her. It is because he trained her and most of the other new member of the Justice League. She views him as her mentor and, in a way, a kind of father figure.

23. Galatea was cloned from Supergirl’s DNA when Supergirl was said to have been badly hurt by Superman. They cloned her so they had a superhero on their side should the Justice League ever go rouge. She was also the main weapon behind project Cadmus.

24. Chronos was your ordinary guy except he liked to collect things and, using a time machine he had invented, he tried to steal Batman’s utility belt. To stop Chronos from disturbing the timeline, Wonder Woman, Batman and Green Lantern followed him through the time hole.

25. At around October 2007, George Miller had cast the Justice League completely: D.J. Cotrona as Superman, Armie Hammer as Batman, model Megan Gale as Wonder Woman, rapper Common as Green Lantern/John Stewart, Adam Brody as the Flash/Barry Allen, Santiago Cabrera as Aquaman/Arthur Curry, and Hugh Keays-Byrneas the Martian Manhunter (J’onn J’onzz). However, he couldn’t begin filming immediately and the cast went on to do other films.
