House MD Trivia: 15 interesting facts you didn’t know!

House (also called House, M.D.) is an American television medical drama series that originally ran on the Fox network for eight seasons, from November 16, 2004 to May 21, 2012. Let’s see some more unknown facts and trivia about it!

1.The original premise of the show was of a team of doctors working together trying to “diagnose the undiagnosable”. Shore felt it was important to have an interesting central character, one who could examine patients’ personal characteristics and diagnose their ailments by figuring out their secrets and lies.

2. The original idea was for House to use a wheelchair, but Fox rejected this.

3. Jacobs later expressed her gratitude for the network’s insistence that the character be reimagined—putting him on his feet added a crucial physical dimension.  The writers ultimately chose to give House a damaged leg arising from an incorrect diagnosis, which requires him to use a cane and causes him pain that leads to a narcotic dependency

4. Laurie later revealed that he initially thought the show’s central character was Dr. James Wilson. He assumed that House was a supporting part, due to the nature of the character, until he received the full script of the pilot episode.

5. In September 2009, the British tabloid The Daily Express reported that Hugh Laurie was starting to suffer physical injury from years of walking with his character’s pronounced limp.

6. Hugh Laurie is the only cast member to appear in every single episode of the show.

7. Hugh Laurie did not actually like the title “House”.

9. Jesse Spencer and Jennifer Morrison became engaged in December of 2006. This was at roughly the time they were shooting the first episodes in which their characters, Dr. Chase and Dr. Cameron, began a romantic relationship.

10. The nickname “Thirteen” for Olivia Wilde’s character Dr. Remy Hadley comes from the first few episodes of Season 4. House is trying to hire a new team from a possible 30 candidates. He assigns them numbers from 1 to 30. Dr. Hadley has the number ’13’ which is considered unlucky by many. Despite the bad omen she makes the team but the name sticks.

11. The first six seasons of House each included one or more recurring featured characters, who appear in multiple-episode story arcs.

12. In 2005, Laurie appeared on the cover of TV Guide as “TV’s Sexiest Man”.

13. In 2008, Gregory House was voted second sexiest television doctor ever, behind ER’s Doug Ross(George Clooney).

14. In 2008, House was distributed in a total of 66 countries. With an audience of over 81.8 million worldwide, it was the most watched television show on the globe and far surpassed the viewership figures of the leading TV dramas the previous two years (CSI and CSI: Miami).

15. When Stephen Colbert won an honorary doctorate, he thanked the other doctors that inspired him, including House (as well as Dr. Huxtable from the Cosby Show and Noah Drake from General Hospital). The House staff in turn added a picture of Stephen Colbert to House’s desk in season 5. When House won an Emmy over The Colbert Report and Laurie got an OBE, however, Colbert added him to his list of enemies.
