Glass trivia: 60 facts about the grounded superhero film!

Glass is the one of the most anticipated films of 2019. It’s director made it into an event!

By introducing Split as a continuation of Unbreakable at the end of the film, the whole film community went bonkers!

  2. Glass is written, produced, and directed by M. Night Shyamalan
  3. The film is a sequel to Shyamalan’s previous films Unbreakable (2000) and Split (2016)

  10. While there was interest in creating a sequel to Unbreakable following its release, Touchstone Pictures opted not to finance
  11. Shyamalan set out to write Split using a character he had written for Unbreakable
  12. He scrapped the script due to balance issues
  13. Shyamalan realized the opportunity he had to create a trilogy of works
  14. He adapted the ending of Split to establish the film as within the Unbreakable narrative
  15. This included securing the rights to use Willis’s Unbreakable character from Disney
  16. This happenned with the promise of including them within the production and distribution of this third film alongside Universal Pictures
  17. Split was a financial and critical success
  18. By April 2017, Shyamalan announced that he had started the production process for Glass
  19. Glass was released on January 18, 2019, by Universal Pictures in the United States
  20. Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures under the Buena Vista International label will release the film in international territories
  21. The film received mixed reviews from critics, with some finding it underwhelming and lamented the climax
  22. The performances and entertainment value of the first act were praised
  23. The final scene for Split includes the appearance of David Dunn, played by Willis
  24. Shyamalan included Dunn here to connect Split to Unbreakable
  25. Shyamalan stated “I hope [a third Unbreakable film happens]. The answer is yes. I’m just such a wimp sometimes. I don’t know what’s going to happen when I go off in my room, a week after this film opens, to write the script”
  26. Shyamalan finished the script by April 2017
  27. It was announced that it would be called Glass
  28. Principal photography on the film began on October 2, 2017 in Philadelphia, following a week of rehearsals
  29. Shyamalan planned for a 39-day shoot in this period
  30. On October 31, 2017 it was reported that Shyamalan was filming at the Allentown State Hospital for the film and would be filming there for a few weeks
  31. On December 12, Shyamalan revealed that 4 scenes are being planned to be shot in January 2018, stating he’d have to travel for those
  32. On February 16, 2018, a scene was filmed at Bryn Mawr College in the athletic center
  33. On July 12, 2018, the first official photographs from production on Glass were released
  34. They including shots of Samuel L. Jackson, Sarah Paulson, and James McAvoy
  35. Deleted scenes from Unbreakable were also used as flashback sequences in the film
  36. West Dylan Thordson returned to score the film after his collaboration with the director on Split
  37. He used themes from the score of Unbreakable by James Newton Howard, alongside those of Split, into this score
  38. The score will be distributed digitally by Back Lot Music on January 18, 2019
  39. On April 25, 2018, the film was featured at CinemaCon, with Shyamalan in attendance
  40. He presented footage from the Glass film
  41. Along with the first official image, featuring Willis, Jackson and McAvoy in character
  42. He also expressed his intention with the film saying, “The worlds of Unbreakable and Split finally collide in Glass.”
  43. He considered it to be the “first truly grounded comic book movie”
  44. On July 20, 2018, the film was promoted at San Diego Comic-Con
  45. With Shyamalan, Willis, Jackson, Taylor-Joy and Paulson attending the panel
  46. There was the film’s first trailer premiere
  47. The first screening for Glass occured on January 12, 2019, at 25 Alamo Drafthouse Cinema locations
  48. In the United States and Canada, Glass is projected to make $50–75 millions
  49. It will be palying in 3,700 theaters over its four-day MLK Day opening weekend
  50. Internationally the film is expected to gross $45–50 million in its first weekend
  51. The global opening of Glass is projected around $105–120 million
  52. On review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an approval rating of 36% based on 168 reviews
  53. It’s average rating of 5/10
  54. The website’s critical consensus reads, “Glass displays a few glimmers of M. Night Shyamalan at his twisty world-building best, but ultimately disappoints as the conclusion to the writer-director’s long-gestating trilogy”
  55. On Metacritic the film has a weighted average score of 42 out of 100
  56. The consesus is based on 46 critics
