Emmys 2019 trivia: 30 facts about the TV awards show

Emmys 2019 announced their winners on the 22nd of September and there were a lot of suprises. Fleabag and Game of Thrones were the biggest winners!

So let’s dive into some trivia and facts about the Emmys 2019!

  1. The 71st Primetime Emmy Awards honored the best in U.S. prime time television programming from June 1, 2018 until May 31, 2019
  2. As chosen by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences
  3. The ceremony was held on September 22, 2019
  4. It was held at the Microsoft Theater in Downtown Los Angeles, California
  5. It was broadcast in the U.S. by Fox
  6. It was preceded by the 71st Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards
  7. They were handed on September 14 and 15
  8. The show did not have a host for the fourth time in its history
  9. Following the telecasts in 2003 (when the awards show also aired on Fox), 1998 (on NBC), and 1975 (on CBS)
  10. The nominations were announced by D’Arcy Carden and Ken Jeong on July 16, 2019
  11. Game of Thrones led the nominations with fourteen
  12. Including nine for acting and three for directing
  13. Followed by When They See Us with eleven
  14. And Barry with nine
  15. Including its nominations at the Creative Arts Awards, Game of Thrones established a new record for most Emmy nominations received in the same year by any comedy or drama series
  16. It had 32
  17. Pop TV received its first Primetime Emmy nominations with Schitt’s Creek
  18. Fleabag won the most awards with four
  19. And Chernobyl won three awards
  20. On April 9, 2019, it was announced that American Horror Story: Apocalypse, the eighth season of the horror anthology series American Horror Story, and the second season of The Sinner would be ineligible for the Limited Series categories
  21. Unlike their previous seasons
  22. And instead be moved to Drama due to “continuing story threads, characters and actors reprising those same character roles from previous seasons”
  23. Therefore making the series less fit for an anthology format
  24. For similar reasons, the second season of American Vandal was moved from Limited Series to Comedy
  25. HBO had 34 wins across all TV series and shows
  26. Netflix had 27 wins
  27. Amazon had 15 wins
  28. The program with the most wins was Game of Thrones with 12
  29. Fleabag had the most wins of the night with four wins
  30. Chernobyl was the second show with the most wins, 10
