After an embarrassing audition using Elton John, Claflin was still in the running due to his acting talent and used the pandemic lock down to work with vocal coaches and guitar teachers over Zoom. The change in his musical range from early audition to filming was described as “dramatic.”
  12. Before filming began, the cast played a mini concert in character as their fictional band to an unsuspecting crowd to get into character and experience the real-time feedback.
  13. The book the series is based on was inspired by the author watching the Fleetwood Mac concert The Dance. The 1997 concert was the first for the band after Lindsey Buckingham, the lead male vocalist/guitarist and ex-boyfriend of lead singer Stevie Nicks, left the band in 1987. The concert was full of tension and looks between Nicks and Buckingham (Nicks later admitted through her songs the two had romantically reconnected during this time), building to an intense rendition of the song Silver Springs, with Nicks and Buckingham staring each other down and singing directly and emotionally to each other. The author of Daisy Jones was struck by this relationship, and what had kept a fire burning between them for forty years at the time, and was inspired to write the characters of Daisy Jones and Billy Dunne. Daisy and Billy’s wardrobe in the series is even inspired by Nicks and Buckingham’s clothing.
  14. The actors learned how to play their instruments to perform live. Lead Riley Keough had to take vocal training to be able to “belt” the songs.
  15. Daisy’s patterned guitar strap in episode two is a replica of her actress Riley Keough’s grandfather Elvis Presley’s in his 1968 concert special.
  16. Riley Keough auditioned for the role of Daisy Jones by singing a Fleetwood Mac song. Daisy is actually based on Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks.

  42. The costume designer took inspiration from Elvis Presley with Daisy considering that Riley Keough who plays her is in real life Elvis granddaughter.
  43. This isn’t the first time Sam Claflin and Suki Waterhouse have worked together. They both starred in Love, Rosie (2014).
  44. Production was delayed for eighteen months due to the covid pandemic.

  47. Riley Keough’s real-life husband Ben Smith-Petersen makes a humorous cameo in the second episode as a one-night stand who Daisy is uninterested in. Riley told late night host Seth Meyers that it was more awkward feigning sex with her husband than if it’d been with another actor.
  48. Billy’s unpredictable, intoxicated on stage flirting with Daisy during the final show in episode ten was improvised by Sam Claflin. Riley Keough- who had knowledge of stage blocking for a musician through her mother and friends- showed Claflin how she would need to stand and perform with a microphone and Claflin improvised his movements off that information. Claflin didn’t tell Keough what he would do- which included wrapping his arms around her, pressing against her, changing which shoulder he appeared over, trying to kiss her and pressing his face against hers- so Keough’s reactions were genuine.
  49. Billy’s pleading to Daisy after she overdoses in episode eight was completely improvised by Sam Claflin.
