Assassin’s Creed is an action adventure film based on the video game franchise of the same name. Let’s see some amazing facts and trivia about it!
1. The film is directed by Justin Kurzel, written by Michael Lesslie, Adam Cooper and Bill Collage.
2. The stars are: Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson, Charlotte Rampling and Michael K. Williams. It will feature music by Jed Kurzel.
3. The synopsis is Career criminal Callum Lynch is rescued from his own execution by Abstergo Industries, the modern-day incarnation of the Templar Order. He is forced to participate in the Animus Project and relive the memories of his ancestor Aguilar de Nerha, an Assassin in the time of the Spanish Inquisition. As Lynch continues to experience Aguilar’s memories, he begins to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to confront the Templars—age-old enemies of the Assassins—in the present day.
4. By October 2011, Sony Pictures was in final negotiations with Ubisoft Motion Pictures to make a film version of Assassin’s Creed, to be released in 3D.
5. In July 2012, Michael Fassbender was announced to star in the film, as well as co-produce the film through his DMC Film banner with Conor McCaughan.
6. Jean-Julien Baronnet, CEO Ubisoft Motion Pictures, said Fassbender was the studio’s first choice to star in the film.
7. As well, negotiations between Sony Pictures and Ubisoft Motion Pictures were put on hold, with Ubisoft executives planning to develop the film independently in order to maintain greater creative control. Sony could still distribute the film, but Ubisoft Motion Pictures would not resume talks until packaging the project with a writer and director.
8. In October 2012, Ubisoft revealed the film would be co-produced with New Regency and distributed by 20th Century Fox. New Regency financed part of the film’s production, in order for Ubisoft to not shoulder much financial risk, yet still be involved creatively; RatPac Entertainment and Alpha Pictures also co-financing the film.
9. Baronnet also revealed Ubisoft hoped to release the film along with a new game launch for the series.
10. Principal photography on the film began on August 31, 2015, with filming taking place in Malta, London, Spain and the 007 Stage at Pinewood Studios. Adam Arkapaw serves as cinematographer, while Andy Nicholson acts as production designer.
11. In December 2015, shooting took place in Spain, and Irons’ role was revealed to be Alan Rikkin.
12. Principal filming ended on January 15, 2016, with further filming taking place in Ely Cathedral in July.
15. The film also features the games’ signature “Leap of Faith” jump, performed by Fassbender’s stunt double, Damien Walters, rather than a digital double, as the production team wanted to make many of the elements in the film as “real” as possible, without the use of visual effects.
16. Assassin’s Creed is scheduled to be released on December 21, 2016. The film was originally announced in May 2013 to be released on May 22, 2015.

18. The film features the highest free fall performed by a stuntman in almost 35 years. The stuntman Damien Walters performed a free fall from the height of 125 feet (38 meters), which lasted almost 3 seconds with an 61 mph impact speed.
19. Robert Downey Jr. was rumored to appear in the film as Leonardo da Vinci.
20. The Assassins costumes took 2-3 months to make and were all hand-crafted. There are eight versions of each costume, with an entire costume team devoted to each of the Assassins.
21. Ubisoft gave the prop makers a detailed list of every weapon ever made for the games that they could use as a guide.
22. As one of the producers, Michael Fassbender lobbied to have Justin Kurzel directing the movie following their work on Macbeth (2015). Fassbender also chose Marion Cotillard to be his co-star again.
23. Fassbender was attracted to the project because he wanted to do a fantasy film that was rooted in science, and also thought the idea of Templars vs. Assassins was intriguing.
24. Michael Fassbender and Ariane Labed did 95% of the fights in the film themselves.
25. In the games, the Animus is a virtual reality machine rediscovered, developed, and sold by Abstergo Industries. It allows the user to read a subject’s genetic memory, and project it onto an external screen in three dimensions.
26. During the building of the courtyard set in Malta, a storm produced a waterspout which moved on to land and hit the set directly causing damages.

28. According to Michael Fassbender, the main approach in creating this film was to respect many things from the games but at the same time to give it a personal touch.
