Amy Poehler is an American actress, comedian, director, producer, voice artist and writer.

1. Amy Poehler was born September 16, 1971 in Newton, Massachusetts.

2. Her parents were school teachers Eileen and William Poehler.

3. Her brother, Greg Poehler, is a producer and actor.[8] She grew up in nearby Burlington.

4. Her father is of English, German, Irish, and Portuguese ancestry, while her mother is of Irish descent.

5. She was raised as a Catholic, and graduated from Burlington High School in 1989.

6. While attending Boston College, Poehler was a member of the improv comedy troupe My Mother’s Fleabag.

7. She graduated from Boston College with a bachelor’s degree in media and communications in 1993 and moved to Chicago, where she studied improv at Second City with friend and future co-star Tina Fey.

8. She also studied with Del Close at ImprovOlympic.

9. At Boston College, the petite (5-foot 2-inch) Poehler became a member of the college’s improvisational comedy troupe, My Mother’s Fleabag.

10. Some of her nicknames include Cool Cat Amy, Crazy Amy and Poehlercoaster.

11. When she was a teenager, she worked at an ice cream parlor called Chadwicks. “We wore old-timey outfits and had to bang a drum, play a kazoo, and sing “Happy Birthday” to people while giving them free birthday sundaes,” she said.

12. In 1996, she moved to New York City after becoming part of the improvisational comedy troupe Upright Citizens Brigade, which later developed into an eponymous television show that aired on Comedy Central for three seasons.

13. In the 90s, she appeared on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” playing Andy Richter’s younger sister, who had a psychotic crush on Conan.

14. Amy Poehler was one of the founding members of the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in 1999. The other founding members were Matt Besser, Ian Roberts, and Matt Walsh.

15. Later on, the group moved to New York and became a Comedy Central show. The show went on only for three seasons. However, the group stayed together at the Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theater. Today, the theater is one of the leading centers for improv and sketch shows.

16. She starred in Mean Girls as Rachel McAdams self-obsessed mother although she is only seven years older than her.

17. Amy has the rare distinction of being in two movies that opened on the same day in the U.S. – “Mean Girls” and “Envy” (April 30, 2004).

18. On the big screen, she seemed to make an impression despite her small roles. In Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo, she played a Tourette’s Syndrome sufferer, and in Wet Hot American Summer she was a snobby drama club leader.

19. She is best known by starring as Leslie Knope in the NBC’s sitcom Parks and Recreation, for which she won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Television Musical or Comedy Series in 2014 and a Critics’ Choice Award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series in 2012.

20. Poehler was a cast member on the NBC television series Saturday Night Live from 2001 to 2008 and became co-anchor of SNL’s Weekend Update in 2004 alongside friend and colleague Tina Fey.

21. She is also known for voicing Joy from Inside Out, Sally O’Malley from the Horton Hears a Who! movie adaption, Bessie Higgenbottom in the 2008–2011 Nickelodeon series, The Mighty B! and Homily Clock from the American-English dub of The Secret World of Arrietty.

22. Poehler served as an executive producer on the Swedish-American sitcom Welcome to Sweden, along with her brother Greg Poehler.

23. The series aired on NBC. She is also an executive producer on Broad City which airs on Comedy Central, and appeared in the season one finale.

24. Since August 2015, she has served as an executive producer on the Hulu original series Difficult People, which stars her former Parks and Recreation co-star Billy Eichner and comedian Julie Klausner, the latter of whom is the creator of the show.

25. In December 2015, Poehler received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her contributions in television.

26. An 18-time Primetime Emmy Award nominee, she won the 2016 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for Saturday Night Live.

27. Poehler married actor Will Arnett on August 29, 2003, and had a recurring role on the series Arrested Development as the wife of Arnett’s character Gob Bluth.

They also played a quasi-incestuous brother-sister ice skating team in the 2007 film Blades of Glory, and appeared together in Horton Hears a Who!, On Broadway, Spring Breakdown, and Monsters vs. Aliens, along with Arnett having a guest appearance on Parks and Recreation. Both also did voice acting in The Secret World of Arrietty.

29. Together, Poehler and Arnett have two sons: Archie (born October 2008) and Abel (born August 2010).

30. Poehler and Arnett announced on September 6, 2012, that they were separating. Arnett filed for divorce on April 8, 2014. The divorce was finalized on July 29, 2016.

31. Poehler dated actor Nick Kroll from 2013 to 2015.
