25 things you didn’t know about the movie “The Big Short”! (List)

Read them here: 1. The Big Short is a 2015 American biographical comedy-drama film directed and co-written by Adam McKay.

2. It is based on the non-fiction 2010 book of the same name by Michael Lewis about the financial crisis of 2007–2008, which was triggered by the build-up of the housing market and the credit bubble.

3. The film stars Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, and Brad Pitt.

4. Distributed by Paramount Pictures, the film began a limited release in the US on December 11, 2015, followed by a wide release on December 23, 2015.

6. On January 13, 2015, Variety reported that Brad Pitt, Christian Bale, and Ryan Gosling were set to star in the film, with Pitt producing the film along with Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner. 8. Principal photography on the film began on March 18, 2015 in New Orleans, Louisiana. On March 25, filming was taking place on General De Gaulle Boulevard in the Algiers section of New Orleans.

9. After meeting with Dr. Michael Burry, the character he would play in the movie, Christian Bale asked to have Burry’s cargo shorts and T-shirt, which he then wore in the movie. Bale later said he hoped Burry would make it to the L.A. premiere, “because I really want to sit next to him and see if he’s going to punch me in the fucking face.”

10. The quotation that appears on screen, “‘Truth is like poetry. And most people fucking hate poetry.’ -Overheard at a Washington, D.C. bar” was in fact written by director and co-writer Adam McKay after unsuccessfully searching for the perfect quotation to use for that segment of the film.

11. The character Mark Baum (Carrell) is based on the real-life money manager Steve Eisman. Jared Vennett (Gosling) is based on real-life trader Greg Lippmann. Ben Rickert (Pitt) is based on Ben Hockett. Charlie Gellar and Jamie Shipley (John Magaro and Finn Wittrock) are based on Charlie Ledley and Jamie Mai.

23. According to Adam McKay just prior to the start of filming Christian Bale badly injured his knee. Due to the injury and doctors’ advice McKay wanted to use a double for Bale’s drumming and swimming scenes but the actor still insisted on doing the scenes himself. Eventually the director agreed but for the recording of the drumming scenes he decided to bring in two doctors who, for the duration of the shoot, were in their surgical scrubs ready to perform in case anything happened to Bale.

24. The cast includes three Oscar winners (Christian Bale, Melissa Leo, and Marisa Tomei), and three Oscar nominees (Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt). Pitt has an Oscar as a producer, but not as an actor.
