After Rose’s business manager embezzles the family business, Rose Video, the family loses its fortune and relocates to Schitt’s Creek, a small town they once purchased as a joke. Now living in a motel, Johnny Rose and Moira Rose- along with their adult children, David, and Alexis must adjust to life without money and with each other.
  8. The series conception came from Dan Levy, who wondered how wealthy families, as frequently depicted on American reality television, would react if they were to lose all their money.
  9. He further developed the series with his father, Eugene, before pitching the series to several Canadian and American networks.
  10. The series was first sold to CBC Television in Canada and secured final funding to start production in its sale to Pop TV in the United States, where it debuted on February 11, 2015.

  25. After her house burned down and she had a mere $3 left in her bank account, Annie Murphy considered quitting acting altogether. Fortunately, she got the audition for “Schitt’s Creek” and landed the role of Alexis.
  26. Eugene Levy gifted Dan Levy a framed photo of the two of them on the last day of shooting Schitt’s Creek (2015). On it, he wrote “Daniel, it was an honor being your partner, son. Dad xo.”
  27. The motel that the Rose family lives in is located in Orangeville, Ontario, whereas Bob’s Garage, the Tropical Diner, and the Schitt’s Creek General Store are located in Goodwood, Ontario. All three can be found at the same intersection.

  35. Catherine was the person who suggested that Moira wear different wigs throughout the series.

  43. Annie’s biggest influences for Alexis were the Kardashians, Lindsay Lohan, the Olsen twins, and Paris Hilton.
  44. nnie came up with Alexis’s iconic hand gesture by watching clips of how the Kardashians would hold their handbags, and then simply doing it without one.
  45. In the beginning of Season 4, Episode 4 when Roland pops open a beer in front of Johnny, was unscripted and Eugene Levy had no idea that the mist would spray on his face. However, he never missed a beat and continued the scene, even wiping off his face at the end.
  46. Chris Elliott, who also starred in Scary Movie 2 (2001), had a scene where his character also stuck his hand in the food for the guest and fondled it.
  47. Annie co-wrote “A Little Bit Alexis” with her husband Menno Versteeg, who fronts the band Hollerado.
  48. Two of the town’s characters are Bob & Ray. Chris Elliott’s father, Bob Elliott, was half of the comedy team “Bob & Ray”.
  49. Dan Levy kept David’s four gold engagement rings, even wearing them to the 2019 Emmy Awards.
  50. In December 2019, a couple got engaged at a recreation of Rose Apothecary at a Schitt’s Creek pop-up event, citing David and Patrick’s relationship as one that inspired their own.
