- Their full name is giant pandas but normally people are referred to them simply as “pandas”.
- Their colors are really significant and characteristic: pandas are black and white.

- Normally they can be found in thick bamboo forests.
- More specifically high up in the mountains of central China.

- Also, they are omnivores.
- Occasionally they eat small animals and fish.
- But bamboo counts for 99% of their diet.

- They consume 12 kilograms of bamboo on a normal day!
- Their formal and scientific name is Ailuropoda melanoleuca.
- It means “black and white cat-foot”.
- Giant pandas grow to between 1.2m and 1.5m and weigh between 75kg and 135kg.
- Scientists aren’t sure how long pandas live in the wild.
- They assume that on average they live up to 30 years in the wild.
- Baby pandas are born pink and measure about 15cm.

- They open their eyes six to eight weeks after birth.
