William Shakespeare, English poet, playwright and actor, is widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world’s pre-eminent dramatist, as well as a linguist, since he added new words.
Many Shakespearean words and phrases were embedded in the English language, particularly through projects such as Samuel Johnson’s “A Dictionary of the English Language” which quoted Shakespeare more than any other writer.
Shakespeare added over 1700 words to the English language, such as “torture” and “swagger” and he was also the one who contributed to the standardization of Grammar and rules.
