There have been several literary descriptions from The Talmud to Tolstoy of men breast-feeding. But can it be true?
Well, it can be true, but under certain circumstances. Quite recently, in 2002, “Agence France-Presse” reported that a 38-year-old man in Sri Lanka, nursed his two daughters through their infancy after his wife died during the birth of her second child.
Dana Raphael, medical anthropologist, claimed in her 1978 book “The Tender Gift: Breastfeeding”, that men could induce lactation simply by stimulating their nipples.
In any case, although it may sound weird, due to several factors such as nipples stimulation, starvation or medical disruptions involving prolactin, men’s body can sometimes produce milk!
