One of the most beautiful, and spectacular flowers, that has ever existed is without any doubt the anemone.

  1. Anemone is a genus of flowering plants in the buttercup family Ranunculaceae.
  2. Plants of the genus are commonly called windflowers.
  3. They are native to the temperate and subtropical regions of all continents.
  4. Australia and Antarctica are exceptes.
  5. The genus is closely related to several otherggeneraincluding Anemonoides, Anemonastrum, Hepatica, and Pulsatilla.
  6. Some botanists include these genera within Anemone.
  7. Anemone are perennials.
  8. They have basal leaves with long leaf-stems that can be upright or prostrate.
  9. Leaves are simple or compound with lobed, parted, or undivided leaf blades.
  10. The leaf margins are toothed or entire.
  11. Flowers with 4–27 sepals are produced singly, in cymes of 2–9 flowers, or in umbels, above a cluster of leaf- or sepal-like bracts.
  12. Sepals may be any color.
  13. The pistils have one ovule.
  14. The flowers have nectaries.
  15. The petals though are missing in the majority of species.
  16. The fruits are ovoid to obovoid shaped achenes that are collected together in a tight cluster, ending variously lengthened stalks; though many species have sessile clusters terminating the stems.
  17. The achenes are beaked and some species have feathery hairs attached to them.
  18. Anemone was named by Carl Linnaeus in 1753.
  19. It is situated in the tribe Anemoneae, subfamily Ranunculoideae, and the family Ranunculaceae.
  20.  As considered in the broader sense (sensu lato) the genus is sometimes considered to include a number of other genera.
  21. Unlike most species that evolved later they don’t have discrete brains.
  22. Anemone is also called windflower.
  23. Anemones bloom from early spring to late fall depending on the species.
  24. Species of anemone can grow up to 1.2 meters (4 feet) tall.
  25. The most widespread anemone flower meaning is anticipation.
  26. This is because the anemone flowers close up at night and open back up in the morning.
  27. Due to its wild nature, the flower also symbolizes relaxation and serves as a reminder to enjoy the moment in order to take in opportunities at the right time.
  28. According to the Victorian language of flowers, anemone flowers also signify fragility.
  29. Anemones are often depicted in images of the Crucifixion or alongside the Virgin Mary as she mourns the death of Christ.
  30. It is said that the red anemones that are included in these paintings symbolize the blood that Christ shed
