It seems strange to think that a website with over a billion users wants to frustrate them every now and then. Changes, even if most don’t like them are essential to a web page and certainly help a lot. But why, in particular, is Facebook changing?
As with every web page that keeps adding features it is certain that some minor changes will occur. For example, when adding a “message” feature on Pages, they are due to have a button. These minor changes however lead to dramatic overhauls. A web page design cannot possibly be easy for changes and new stuff that just keep coming through Facebook’s development team mind, so changes have to be added to an old design in increments, and the users get used to it.
However, there is a point where adding more and more pieces on places that just fit creates a cluttered interface, that is very confusing to a new user. In addition, it slows down the page by not obeying a set design code that was written in the beginning.
After all, Facebook is a free service, and any changes no matter how major are usually forgotten within a week. If you are using Facebook for more than two years, I can only bet you cannot really remember how it was the first time you opened your account.
Got anything to add?
