Google Inc., the American multinational corporation specializing in Internet-related services and products, was founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin while they were Ph.D. students at Stanford University.
The new search engine was originally nicknamed as “BackRub”, because the system checked backlinks to estimate the importance of a site.
Page and Brin changed later the name to Google, originating from a misspelling of the word “googol” the number one followed by one hundred zeros.
