- He was born April 3, 1942.
- His full name is Carson Wayne Newton.
- He was born in Norfolk, Virginia.
- He is of Irish, German, and Native American ancestry.
- Wayne started learning the piano, guitar, and steel guitar at age six.
- His older brother, Jerry, and him, started singing at local clubs when they moved to Newark, Ohio.
- In 1958, a Las Vegas booking agent saw Newton on a local TV show, Lew King Rangers Show. He was performing with his brother and the agent took them back for an audition.
- They tried out for the audition and performed for five years, doing six shows a day.
- Lucille Ball, Bobby Darin, Danny Thomas, George Burns, Jack Benny and others supported Newton at the beginning of his career.
- Newton signed a 10-year deal with the Stardust in Vegas, in 1999. The terms of the contract were calling for him to perform there 40 weeks out of the year for six shows a week in a showroom named after him. Not bad!
- He is known by the nicknames «The Midnight Idol, Mr. Las Vegas and Mr. Entertainment».

- The road serving the main terminal of McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas is named Wayne Newton Boulevard in his honor.
