The vegetable most people love and eat largely every week, has a long history. Potatoes were domesticated about 7.000 years ago, although its introduction to Europe, that was the prevailing civilization then, only came in the 1600 since the plant was not endemic in Europe, by the Spanish conquistadors.
Potato is considered a vegetable despite its first name “Apple of the earth”. As a matter of fact, it is mostly eaten cooked, especially fried, although boiled potatoes are considered much healthier, having about 100 calories per average potato. In average, an american will consume 137 pounds of potatoes each year, 40% of which will be frozen and 13% as chips!
