30 Rock Trivia | 40 facts about the popular series

One of the most popular, and successful sitcoms is 30 Rock, that over managed to attract many fans.

So, let’s find out more about the favourite series!

  1. 30 Rock is an American satirical sitcom television series.
  2. It was created by Tina Fey.
  3. Originally it aired on NBC.
  4. It aired on NBC from October 11, 2006, to January 31, 2013.
  5. The series, based on Fey’s experiences as head writer for Saturday Night Live, takes place behind the scenes of a fictional live sketch comedy show depicted as airing on NBC.
  6. The series’ name refers to 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York City.
  7. It’s the address of the now Comcast Building, where the NBC Studios are located and where Saturday Night Live is written, produced, and performed.
  8. The series was produced by Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video.
  9. It also produces Saturday Night Live and Fey’s Little Stranger, Inc., in association with NBCUniversal.
  10. 30 Rock episodes were produced in a single-camera setup.
  11. Of course the two live episodes are excepted because they were produced in the multiple-camera setup, and were filmed in New York.
  12. The pilot episode premiered on October 11, 2006, and seven seasons followed.
  13. The series stars Fey with a supporting cast that includes Alec Baldwin, Tracy Morgan, Jane Krakowski, Jack McBrayer, Scott Adsit, Judah Friedlander, Katrina Bowden, Keith Powell, Lonny Ross, John Lutz, Kevin Brown, Grizz Chapman, and Maulik Pancholy.
  14. Alec Baldwin has said that this show was the best job he’s ever had.
  15. The show’s twenty-two Emmy nominations in 2009 is a record for the most nominations a comedy show ever received in a single year.
  16. Liz Lemon’s catchphrase “I want to go to there” was coined by Tina Fey’s daughter Alice.
  17. Tina Fey was not originally going to star on the show. However, NBC insisted she appear.
  18. Tina Fey wrote Kenneth Parcell with Jack McBrayer in mind to play him.
  19. Alec Baldwin won the SAG Award for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series every year since the show’s inception until 2013, a feat held by no other actor in either drama or comedy.
  20. In addition, he won another one in 2009 as part of the cast.
  21. He was also nominated for the last time in 2014, but failed to win that time, probably because the show ended in January 2013.
  22. Tina Fey originally pitched a show about a Bill O’Reilly-like news program, in which she’d play the producer. “
  23. The show was originally going to be called Rock Center.
  24. Fey preferred the title The Peacock, but NBC didn’t want them to mock the company logo.
  25. Fey created the character of Jack Donaghy for Baldwin, but she never thought he’d actually do the show.
  26. She didn’t even reach out to him before holding auditions for the part. But Baldwin happened to be hosting SNL around that time, so Fey and Michaels mentioned the part to him.
  27. Fey said at a Paley Center event that the Liz and Jack relationship was a tough dynamic to define, but that the writers landed on “somewhere between Mary Tyler Moore and Lou Grant and Han Solo and Princess Leia.”
  28. Many wondered what would come of the relationship between Jack and Liz, but showrunner and writer Robert Carlock has stated that the writers never planned to explore any romance between the two characters.
  29. Fey’s fellow SNL alum, Dratch, was originally cast in the part of Jenna DeCarlo.
  30. Her last name was changed to Maroney when they hired Jane Krakowski
  31. In a 2018 “New Yorker” profile of Donald Glover, Glover said that he had long wondered if he had been hired as a writer on this show because of his race. At the time he was hired, he was only 23 years old, still living in the New York University dorms as a Residential Advisor, and had limited experience. 
  32. Tina Fey confirmed Glover’s suspicion. She admired Glover’s talent, but hired him because funds from NBC’s Diversity Initiative “made him free.”
  33. This set-up was actually a subplot in season four, episode seventeen, “Lee Marvin vs. Derek Jeter”, when Toofer discovers he was hired because of NBC’s Diversity Initiative, which was still covering his salary.
  34. Tina Fey didn’t want Liz Lemon to be a single mother because it would have restricted her character. This allowed Liz more freedom in her life and gave Fey more avenues to explore for plotlines.
  35. Lee, a costume designer for “TGS”, is played by Tom Broecker, who was a costume designer for this show.
  36. Jon Hamm auditioned for the part of Jack.
  37. Though he didn’t get the role, Hamm went on to play one of Liz’s love interests, Dr. Drew Baird. 
  38. Morgan improvised a few of Tracy Jordan’s famous possessions.
  39. Tina Fey thought the show would get cancelled during season one.
  40. In 2010, one blogger actually calculated how many jokes there were per minute in the show. They determined that there was an average of 9.57 jokes each minute.
